What is the purpose / mission of the position?
As a Node.js Backend Engineer, you will have the opportunity to help modernise our backend applications, automate processes, and improve our systems. You will work with cutting-edge technologies at one of the largest financial institutions in the Netherlands, playing a key role in leading important changes as NN aims to become a leading digital retail bank.
What you will do
As our Node.js Backend Engineer, you will evaluate our technological landscape, design and implement automation, investigate and fix bugs, integrate systems, and support existing deployments. You will also promote a tech-driven culture at NN by being an ambassador for new ways of working that combine client-centricity with advanced software practices.
Your main responsibilities include:
* Defining and evolving our solution architecture.
* Developing and maintaining unified coding standards.
* Contributing to the strategic approach of Savings, Investments, and Bank Assurance to ensure future readiness.
* Creating automation and integrations using software solutions.
* Collaborating with the Engineering Guild and encouraging community contributions.
* Conducting code reviews and making final decisions as an editor-in-chief.
* Coaching and mentoring fellow engineers within and across domains.
Who you are
You have extensive experience in building high-quality software and can collaborate effectively with both business colleagues and engineers. You are proactive in sharing ideas on building a tech-led culture and are familiar with GIT, pipelines, package management, and testing practices. Additionally, you possess:
* 8+ years of experience as a Node.js backend engineer.
* Strong knowledge of REST and GraphQL API integration patterns.
* A good understanding of CI/CD and a DevOps mindset (“you build it, you own it”).
* Some knowledge of React is a plus.
Who you will work with
You will be part of a small, cross-functional Agile scrum team, working closely with engineers and functional maintainers. You will engage in technical discussions to refine user stories, ensuring a smooth customer experience across channels. The team is known for its informal, friendly, and fun culture.
