We are supporting one of our largest integral clients and are looking for an experienced Freelance Energy Projects Consultant based in Spain to join an internal strategic energy team.This is a remote-first role with occasional travel, offering the opportunity to work on complex energy infrastructure projects in a fast‐paced, international environment.
Role OverviewThe consultant will support the development and execution of energy infrastructure solutions across a large logistics and industrial portfolio, with a strong focus on:MicrogridsBattery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)Distributed energy technologies
A key element of the role is contributing to a Global Energy Resilience & Power Intelligence Program, a strategic initiative designed to embed power feasibility, standardized design approaches, and data‐driven insights into site selection and project development processes.The engagement is structured as an annual freelance contract, working closely with internal stakeholders and external engineering partners.
Key Responsibilities
Project Development & StrategySupport the identification, evaluation, and development of energy projects (microgrids, BESS, solar, and related technologies)Contribute to project strategies aligned with operational and business objectivesIdentify and assess technical solutions for diverse site conditions
Energy Modelling & Feasibility AnalysisDevelop and maintain energy and financial models, primarily using GridcogPerform technical and economic feasibility assessmentsSupport decision‐making through data‐driven analysis and scenario modelling
Energy Resilience & Power Intelligence ProgramContribute to power intelligence tools integrating grid assessment and centralized utility dataSupport standardization of power assessment methodologies, reports, and data librariesAssist in developing automated sizing tools and standardized power solution packages to optimize design, cost, and delivery timelines
Project ManagementAct as internal project manager across multiple concurrent initiativesCoordinate timelines, milestones, stakeholders, and risksEnsure alignment between internal teams and external consultantsTrack progress and key deliverables
Engineering OversightPrepare technical specifications (BESS, microgrids, EMS)Review and supervise detailed engineering delivered by external consultantsValidate key design decisions and ensure technical quality and compliance
Stakeholder CoordinationCollaborate with cross‐regional teams (EU focus, with global exposure)Interface with external consultants and technology partnersSupport coordination across multidisciplinary teams
Innovation & Special ProjectsContribute to innovative initiatives, including grid interaction projectsSupport pilot projects xbhjioe and emerging energy technologies as required
Key DeliverablesEnergy models and feasibility assessments (Gridcog and Excel‐based)Project management documentation (timelines, trackers, status reports)Technical review and validation reportsStrategic recommendations for energy project developmentEffective coordination across internal and external stakeholders
Required ProfileBackground in Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, or similarProven experience with distributed energy resources (BESS, microgrids, solar, etc.)Strong analytical and energy modelling capabilitiesProject management experience in complex, multi‐stakeholder environmentsAbility to work independently in a dynamic international setting
