About The Role
As the Senior Manager, European Carrier Management, you will lead and develop a team of Carrier Managers responsible for overseeing the services provided to the many thousands of our customers across Europe. This player-coach role requires strategic leadership and hands-on involvement in daily operations, all within a fast moving and dynamic environment. Your team manages carrier relationships, negotiates commercial terms, ensures seamless technical integrations, monitors service levels, and maintains system accuracy. Your expertise will drive operational excellence, cost efficiency, and superior service quality for our e-commerce clients. This position involves travel within Europe to meet with carrier partners, attend industry events, and collaborate with other teams.
What will you be doing?
* Team Leadership: Mentor and manage a team of Carrier Managers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
* Carrier Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong partnerships with parcel carriers across Europe, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
* Commercial Negotiations: Lead negotiations on rates, surcharges, and contracts, utilising market benchmarking to secure competitive and transparent terms.
* Technical Coordination: Oversee the collection of technical requirements and facilitate effective communication between carriers and internal technical teams.
* System Administration: Ensure accurate updates of rates and services within proprietary systems, primarily managed through spreadsheets or similar tools.
* Analytical Oversight: Analyse performance metrics and market data to inform strategic decisions and operational improvements.
* Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, customer service, governance, operations, and user growth teams to align logistics initiatives with overall business strategies.
* Strategic Planning: Translate business objectives into actionable delivery plans, driving continuous innovation and quality improvements.
* Performance Monitoring: Develop and lead regular business reviews, forecasting, and annual planning cycles.
What are we looking for?
* Experience: Proven management experience within the parcel carrier or logistics sector, preferably with exposure to large e-commerce retailers, third-party logistics providers, or delivery comparison platforms.
* Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the European parcel delivery market, including carrier operations and logistics nuances.
* Technical Aptitude: Familiarity with system administration tasks and the ability to bridge communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* Analytical Skills: Proficiency in data analysis, with the capability to interpret complex datasets to drive informed decisions. Proficient in Excel or Google Sheets, with the ability to effectively communicate findings through compelling data-driven presentations.
* Language Proficiency: Fluency in English and at least one other European language.
* Education: While a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field is preferred, equivalent practical experience and a demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning will also be taken into account.
