IAG.ai is a growing team within the International Airlines Group (British Airways, Iberia, Vueling, Aer Lingus, IAG Loyalty, IAG Cargo, IAG Tech), focused on leveraging Artificial Intelligence to enhance our market position and accelerate value delivery across multiple Operating Companies.
We are seeking a Principal Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will utilize data and tools to uncover insights, support data-driven decisions, and help achieve our organizational goals.
Purpose of the role
As a Principal Engineer in the Software Engineering & Delivery team, your focus will be on delivering automated tooling and software solutions that benefit IAG Tech and the broader business. You will lead by example as a hands-on engineer, define technical approaches, and uphold engineering standards and best practices across the team.
This position is key to developing our bespoke engineering metrics platform, which will provide operational insights and promote best practices throughout IAG Software Engineering.
The Team
The Software Engineering team comprises three units, with this role in the Engineering Acceleration team, which enables and empowers software engineering and AI teams across IAG to deliver high-quality software efficiently and safely.
The main project involves a bespoke Engineering Metrics Platform that aggregates data from tools like GitHub, SonarCloud, and Snyk on an AWS and PowerBI platform, facilitating productivity improvements, cost savings, and risk reduction. The role involves close collaboration with the AI Engineering Platform squad and product teams to ensure the platform evolves to meet stakeholder needs.
Qualifications
* Designs for all layers of tooling architecture, from UI to databases.
* Develops and maintains code for data collection from tools like GitHub, Snyk, SonarCloud, JIRA, Confluence, ensuring compliance with security policies.
* Builds tooling, API integrations, and automation solutions to extract insights from shared tooling.
* Evaluates off-the-shelf solutions for AI teams, including piloting and cost assessment.
* Designs and delivers solutions using standard methods, consulting specialists as needed.
* Creates documentation and promotes best practices to improve engineering processes.
* Collaborates across teams to identify synergies and promote adoption of best practices.
* Enhances CI/CD pipelines to improve security, practice modern engineering, and automate reporting.
* Fosters environments for continuous improvement, DevSecOps, and agile practices.
* Plans and conducts tests, translating requirements into tests, and automates testing where possible.
* Works with stakeholders to understand and meet acceptance criteria.
* Supports tooling, deployment, and monitoring to ensure reliability.
* Manages multiple projects, adapting to business and IT changes.
This role may involve travel and working across multiple sites.
Skills Required
* Proficiency in deploying and maintaining SaaS and tooling infrastructure.
* Strong coding skills in technologies such as AWS, Azure, Typescript, Python.
* Experience with databases, deployment tools like GitHub Actions, and security tools like Snyk and SonarCloud.
* PowerBI skills are highly desirable or willingness to learn.

Experience
* Proven cloud solution design, build, and support experience.

Education
Degree in Computer Science, technical field, or equivalent industry experience.
