Job Description

Early Years Class Teacher

Responsible to : Head of Stage

Main purpose of Class Teacher :

* Be responsible for the learning and achievement of all pupils in their class, ensuring equality of opportunity for all.
* Be responsible and accountable for achieving the highest standards in work and conduct.
* Treat pupils with dignity, building relationships rooted in mutual respect, observing proper boundaries appropriate to a teacher's professional position.
* Work proactively and effectively in collaboration with learners, parents/carers, staff, and external agencies for the best interests of pupils.
* Take responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young people within the school.

Duties and responsibilities :

* Deliver the curriculum relevant to the age and ability group/subject(s) taught.
* Prepare and develop teaching materials, programmes, and planning.
* Be accountable for the attainment, progress, and outcomes of pupils.
* Assess pupils' capabilities, prior knowledge, and plan accordingly, demonstrating understanding of how pupils learn.
* Understand and support the needs of all pupils, including those with SEN, gifted and talented, EAL, disabilities, using appropriate teaching approaches.
* Promote high standards of literacy, including correct spoken English.
* Implement appropriate teaching strategies for early reading, such as systematic synthetic phonics.
* Use observation, assessment, monitoring, and recording strategies to set challenging objectives and monitor progress.
* Provide regular feedback and encourage pupils to respond and reflect on their progress.
* Utilize data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan future lessons.
* Participate in examinations and assessments.

* Create a safe, purposeful, and stimulating environment rooted in mutual respect.
* Establish discipline frameworks using praise, sanctions, and rewards fairly and consistently.
* Manage classes effectively, inspiring and motivating pupils.
* Maintain good relationships, exercise authority, and act decisively when needed.
* Model positive attitudes and behaviour.
* Promote self-control and independence.
* Safeguard the welfare of children, raising concerns as per school protocol.


Team working and collaboration

* Participate in relevant meetings, professional development, and school activities.
* Collaborate with colleagues and share effective practices.
* Support colleagues, including covering for absent staff if required.


Professional development

* Regularly review and refine teaching and assessment practices.
* Engage in training and development opportunities.


Other

* Uphold the school's ethos, policies, and high standards of attendance and punctuality.


Requirements :

* Excellent communication and listening skills.
* Good organizational skills.
* The ability to inspire and enthuse young children.
* Energy, resourcefulness, responsibility, patience, and a caring nature.
* Understanding of children's needs and feelings.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* A sense of humour and perspective.
* Experience with the EYFS Curriculum and knowledge of child development.
* QTS or equivalent Early Years Practitioner qualification.
* Native or C1 level English speaker.
* Satisfactory DBS and reference check.
