We are achieving this by transforming the quality of life for donkeys, mules and people worldwide through greater understanding, collaboration and support, and by promoting lasting, mutually life-enhancing relationships.We have a superb opportunity for an organised, self-motivated and flexible individual to join our dedicated team at El Refugio del Burrito - a subsidiary of The Donkey Sanctuary, established in 2003 to improve conditions for donkeys and mules in Spain. With previous experience of working in a farm management, and extensive animal husbandry (preferably equine) skills, you will be responsible for the day to day management and operation of the farm; including all aspects of management of land, staff, donkeys, mules, ponies and hinnies.Within this varied and rewarding role your principal duties and responsibilities will include- Effective day to day management of both ERB farms, including all aspects of staff and donkey care and welfare, including providing out of hours cover as necessary- Supporting the Country Manager in maintaining a safe working environment by using risk assessments, following health and safety regulations and maintaining farm security- Reporting regularly to the Country Manager/Regional Director Europe on all matters concerning the running of the farm, including feed and bedding ordering and deliveries, staffing, training, building repairs, machinery- Ensuring staff rotas provide adequate cover at all times and that veterinary and farriery cover is available when required- Ensuring that the farm book, internal donkey records and local veterinary office have up to date information and that ERB is compliant with local legislation concerning donkey registration and census- Ensuring that the farmland, its management and products are used in the best benefit of the donkeys and the organisation, and that the team are following internal biosecurity measures and contribute to specific biosecurity plans for the farm- Supporting and managing volunteers and work experience students in a friendly and respectful manner- Acting as an ambassador for the Charity by acquiring a good knowledge of El Refugio del Burrito and the work of the Charity worldwide to positively engage with visitors and members of the public by providing appropriate and accurate information to enhance the visitor experience whilst at El Refugio del Burrito.A relevant animal care, equine or agricultural qualification, together with up to date knowledge of health and safety legislation in the workplace is essential, as are excellent communication, customer service and IT skills and fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English language. Experience of trailer towing and driving small horsebox, a trailer licence and an animal transportation certificate are desirable.If you feel you have the qualities, skills and experience to fulfil this varied, rewarding and vital role, and would like to be part of the evolving program of change taking place within the charity, we would love to hear from you. This is a full-time, permanent contract starting as soon as possible, working 40 hours a week, and is based at the main office and visitor centre in Fuente de Piedra, Malaga.
