Research Description
We seek a university student who will have completed their M.Sc. by the start of the contract. The candidate will work on time-resolved photoinduced dynamics in polyatomic molecules using the available setup at the Center for Ultrafast Lasers (CLUR) of UCM. The project involves XUV-NIR pump-probe experiments to study molecular dynamics via one-photon ionization with femtosecond and sub-femtosecond resolution, focusing on organic chromophores such as aniline and derivatives. Additional experiments will utilize electron/ion time-of-flight spectrometers with attosecond XUV pulses.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate must have or be completing a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, or related fields, with a strong interest in light-matter interaction and molecular dynamics. Experience with ultrafast lasers and programming skills are valued but not mandatory. Strong teamwork, communication skills, and the ability to conduct experiments and literature searches independently are essential. The PhD work will include opportunities for presenting at international conferences and publishing scientific papers.
Working Environment
The PhD will be conducted within the Chemical Reaction Dynamics and Femtochemistry group at UCM, Madrid, supervised by Prof. Sonia Marggi Poullain. Experiments will primarily take place at CLUR. The group specializes in photodynamics studies of polyatomic molecules using ultrafast laser techniques, nanosecond to attosecond pulses, and synchrotron radiation.
