Brad Bolitho Ltd is in search of an eager apprentice seeking to gain a Level 2 qualification in Bricklaying, demonstrating a positive outlook towards a construction career. They aim to welcome this apprentice into their motivated crew based in Cornwall. The ideal candidate will seamlessly integrate with their tight-knit team, focusing on residential projects within Cornwall and its vicinity.

The Apprentice’s Role

Throughout your apprenticeship, you will undergo comprehensive training to ensure the successful attainment of your bricklaying qualification. As a proficient apprentice in this field, you will acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for excelling in your role. This encompasses developing expertise in utilising specialised tools, machinery, and power tools relevant to property maintenance tasks. Meticulous attention to detail is of utmost importance, particularly when cutting and aligning brickwork and slabs.

You will benefit from expert guidance provided by experienced team members who will instruct you on the safe and proper operation of power tools and specialised cutting equipment. Moreover, you will gain hands-on experience in mortar preparation, both through manual techniques and using mixers, as well as engage in the layout of work areas to optimise efficiency. Additionally, your role may occasionally entail manual lifting tasks, contributing to your well-rounded skill set as a property maintenance apprentice.

As a Level 2 Bricklaying Apprentice, Your Role Involves

* Attaining fundamental skills and knowledge necessary for successful qualification attainment.
* Acquiring competence in utilising specialised equipment, machinery, and power tools.
* Exemplifying exceptional attention to detail while cutting and aligning brickwork and slabs.
* Mastering the art of mortar preparation, both through manual methods and with the use of mixers.
* Participating in the efficient setup of work areas.
* Engaging in manual lifting tasks as part of the apprenticeship experience.
* Collaborating closely with experienced team members to facilitate hands-on learning opportunities.
* Strictly adhering to safety protocols and guidelines for a secure work environment.
* Developing proficiency in property maintenance techniques and industry best practices.

Working Hours: The working hours will be around 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, hours may vary slightly depending on workload and travel time.

Wages: £256.00 per week, any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship

Their capabilities extend to a variety of specialised areas, including; Groundworks & Drainage, Roof Structure, Rendering, and Pointing & Plastering.

On completion of your Level 2 Apprenticeship with the company, an opportunity for full time employment will be available for the right candidate. Alternatively, you will be qualified to be self-employed or complete your Level 3 NVQ/apprenticeship Standard.

Skills Required

Good practical and communication skills, good work ethic, ability to work in an accurate manner, ability to work as part of a team. Physically fit due to the nature of the job.

Personal Qualities

You must be reliable with good time keeping skills, and be proative.

Prior Qualifications

No formal qualifications are required for the position, however a keen interest in construction and willingness to succeed are essential.

The Apprenticeship In Bricklaying Includes

* Level 2 Bricklayer Apprenticeship
* Functional Skills Maths and English (If GCSE Maths and English are not at Grade C/4 or above)
* CSCS training to be provided.

As part of the apprenticeship programme, attendance is required at our Skills Group training centre for one day per week. All other aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site by the employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated Skills Group assessor, who will monitor your progress during your apprenticeship training.

Whilst at the Skills Group training centre, you will learn the necessary skills and gain experience to help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the rest will be practical. You will develop your hand skills, carry out brick and block work, learn the correct use of specific tools, carry out pointing and learn mortar ratio mixes under the guidance of your assessor. Learning all these additional skills will benefit you on returning to the employer.

As an additional qualification you will also achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.

As part of your apprenticeship Skills Group will also support you to complete your online CSCS test, which will enable you to apply for your CSCS Card. This shows that you are at the required competent level to carry out site work with the employer.
