SummaryResponsible for the performance and organization of the shift. May accept laboratory analysis and related assignments when required, and ensure timely delivery of laboratory reports by coordinating and managing the complete workflow.
Responsibilities
Assist Laboratory Manager and/or Branch Manager in the location's responsibility duties.
Organize all department processes and personnel within the location during the shift to meet client needs accurately and on time.
Run operations at the lowest possible cost while maintaining safety, quality of service, employee satisfaction, and asset maintenance.
Ensure full cooperation with Laboratory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager, Branch Manager and other managers on all assignments.
Follow all company procedures (HSE Manual, Accounting Policies & Procedures, IT procedures, Ethics Policy, Compliance Code, etc.) and stay updated on changes.
Report directly to Laboratory Manager, Assistant Branch Manager and/or Branch Manager.
Qualifications
Education and Experience : Minimum professionalism certificate related to chemistry/laboratory or a Chemistry/Engineering university degree;
or 2-3 years of relevant customer service or laboratory experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes :
Knowledge of petrochemical products, chemicals, gases, other liquid cargoes, and/or agricultural products.
Excellent verbal and written knowledge of local language and English.
Advanced computer skills (MS Windows, Word, Excel, Company Systems).
Strong social skills, leadership abilities, interpersonal skills, good communication, and team-building abilities.
Highly organized, positive, problem-solving and analytical mindset.
Competencies :
Proficient use of working tools (connect, Excel, etc.) and ability to inform and report to clients with autonomy under supervision.
Coordinate teamwork and organize chemists' work with clear communication to managers.
Ensure activities comply with client instructions, international test methods, Saybolt standards, and safety policies.
Monitor timelines, communicate progress to clients, and intervene when necessary.
May supervise laboratory analysis and ensure timely delivery of reports by coordinating workflow across Laboratory, Chemists, and Office Staff.
Review laboratory reports for completeness and accuracy;
report updates to clients in a timely manner to meet KPIs.
Participate in safety meetings, investigate incidents, and emphasize safety to all staff.
Assist in reviewing staff expenses, time records, and incentives related to laboratory activities.
Collaborate with Safety Officer to ensure compliance with HSE Manual and local safety regulations.
Ensure IATA requirements for air transport of samples are followed.
Communicate complaints and claims to Branch Management as needed.
Organize regular staff meetings and develop training presentations for local and international clients.
Maintain knowledge of analysis and safety standards (ASTM, UOP, IP, etc.) used in the laboratory.
Assist in setup and implementation of methods to maximize location capabilities.
Possess classroom training and examinations for managing laboratory operations.
Complete laboratory raw data sheets and enter accurate data into Saybolt systems.
Perform and maintain laboratory procedures, equipment calibration, control charting, and QA documentation per Saybolt quality manuals.
Perform complex mathematical calculations and ensure traceability of results (e.G., blending calculations, ratios, percentages, and quantities).

May require irregular hours/shifts (nights, weekends, holidays) depending on location.
Must be willing to accept assignments at any time, including days off, with possible after-hours dispatching.

Work environmentThe work environment characteristics describe the essential functions and reasonable accommodations. Regular exposure to fumes or airborne particles and potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually moderate.
