We’re working with ModmaCon, as they look to recruit for a Senior or Lead 2D VFX Artist for their new Barcelona based studio. As a Senior or Lead 2D VFX Artist you oversee the creation, implementation, and optimization of high-quality visual effects tailored to the unique and stylised artistic vision of the studio’s game. You will play a key role in the entire VFX process, from early-stage design to final integration into the game. You’ll be based on site, in the vibrant city of Barcelona, collaborating closely with Designers, Programmers, and other development teams to bring the project’s game world to life with eye-catching, stylized effects that enhance the overall player experience. ModmaCon specialises in high-quality art for mobile games and collaborates with leading mobile studios to bring visually stunning and immersive gaming experiences to life. They are assembling a passionate team with a focus on creative growth and innovation in mobile gaming as they partner with mobile studios who are driving projects featuring stylised art. Your responsibilities... Design and manage frame by frame VFX, shaders and particle systems using tools like Adobe animate, Spine, Niagara, Unity VFX Graph and custom solutions. Collaborate with Design, Art and Programming teams to align VFX with the game's style and quality, define the VFX needs and integrate them into the game engine. Ensure VFX perform well across all platforms by optimizing the VFX using profiling tools in Unity. Develop shaders to enhance the game's visual quality. Guide and mentor a team of VFX Artists, sharing best practices and helping them develop their skills. Lead the creation of stylised visual effects that align with the game’s artistic vision, from initial concept to final implementation. Maintain high visual quality while ensuring effects are optimized for performance across platforms. The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role... 4 or more years of 2D VFX art experience. Strong portfolio showing your experience in creating high-quality, 2D stylised visual effects Held a Senior or Lead VFX role with experience of mentoring less experienced VFX Artists. Experience with frame by frame VFX creation including particle systems, shaders, and real-time visual effects. Skilled in scripting languages such as Python, C# or similar technologies for VFX automation and enhancement. Solid understanding of profiling and optimizing VFX for performance in Unity. Experience with both pre-rendered VFX and real-time effects. Solid understanding of game engines, art pipelines and modern tools..
