About The Role
The Safety, Health and Environment Specialist leads site‑wide SHE programs to ensure legal compliance, reduce risks and environmental impact, and strengthen a proactive safety culture. As part of the Plant Management Team, this role plays a central role in fostering a strong safety culture and supporting sustainable operational performance. The position drives continuous improvement, manages SHE incidents, and provides expert guidance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Designs, maintains and leads the implementation of the local safety and environmental management systems
Leads SHE incident management and drives management of relevant programs and actions relating to documented risks and or incident follow up
Conducts SHE meetings, audits and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective and preventive actions and implement follow up assessments.
Provides site employees, contractors and visitors with guidance on health and safety and confirms site complies with Barry Callebaut, industry, local, state/provincial and national guidelines and regulations.
Collaborates with management to develop and maintain an Emergency Response Plan and serves as primary contact for site SHE incident notification, investigation and case management.
Integrating occupational health and safety imperatives with business decision-making and risk management
Advising on engineering and maintenance practices to drive improvement of safe systems
Drive positive SHE culture, through but not limited to: embedding the 10 BC Life Saving Principles, Gemba safety talks and training, and putting Safety first demonstrated by consistent management behaviors
Ensure compliance is regularly audited and performance assessed and use the results to drive further improvement.
Responsible for monitoring and measurement of SHE KPIs and targets - SHE Scorecard
About You
Master's degree in Science or Engineering or equivalent industrial experience
Qualifications required by local regulatory authorities: to add by the location
Project Management skills
Internal auditor or ISO auditor qualification a plus
Experience of Lean/TPM tools and ways of working a plus
Good working English required
Understand the requirements of relevant standard such as ISO 14001; ISO 45001 or OSHSAS 18001
Minimum 5 years' experience in a factory-based role: Safety, Health or Environment role, Operations, Continuous Improvement, Process Improvement or Quality
Experience with SHE management systems and risk management
Experience with influencing behavioral change in a team/department
