The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. The mission of BSC is to research, develop and manage information technologies in order to facilitate scientific progress. BSC combines HPC service provision and R&D into both computer and computational science (life, earth and engineering sciences) under one roof, and currently has over 1000 staff from 60 countries.
Context and Mission
The BSC’s Machine Learning for Biomedical Research Unit at the Life Sciences Department and Workflows and Distributed Computing Group at the Computer Sciences Department are looking for a Junior Research Engineer to support the definition of the stroke patient journey and, in particular, to estimate the associated costs for the Spanish healthcare system. This position is part of the AGAUR OneCareAI Producte project, a collaboration with the Sant Pau Research Institute, aimed at advancing stroke risk prediction to enhance prevention, enable continuous monitoring using AI, and explore commercial opportunities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating national and international clinical trials focused on stroke risk prediction using wearables, support regulatory and ethical compliance, and ensure alignment between technical development and clinical strategy, also play a key role in future reimbursement and market access strategies. This role offers the opportunity to work in close collaboration with the Technology Transfer Office and national and international experts in stroke research.
Key Duties
* Coordinate ongoing and upcoming clinical pilot studies
* Act as liaison between clinical teams (neurologists, CROs, KOLs) and internal AI/tech teams
* Ensure compliance, supporting documentation, audits, and quality system implementation
* Manage study timelines, monitor progress, and proactively resolve operational and regulatory issues
* Support patient recruitment, data collection and integrity, site monitoring, and follow-up
* Lead preparation of ethics submissions and interface with regulatory authorities
* Contribute to clinical protocol development, interim analyses, and final reporting
* Provide input to the market access team on pharmacoeconomic impact based on clinical evidence
Requirements
* Education
o PhD, Master’s, or equivalent degree in Life Sciences, Biomedicine, Pharmacy, or related discipline
* Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
o 3+ years of experience coordinating clinical trials, preferably involving digital health or wearable technologies
o Hands-on knowledge of ICH-GCP and clinical study lifecycle (start-up to close-out)
o Strong project management skills, including planning, documentation, and stakeholder coordination
o Experience in managing multiple clinical studies simultaneously
o Proficiency in digital tools for project and data management (e.G., eCRF, CTMS, Power BI)
* Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
o Familiarity with omics or AI-driven healthcare innovation
o Knowledge of regulatory approval processes (CE Mark, MDR, FDA)
o Experience with EU-funded research projects (e.G., H2020, AGAUR, ISCIII)
* Competences
o Fluent in Spanish and English, advanced Catalan

Conditions
* The position will be located at BSC within the Computer Sciences Department

Development of the recruitment process
The selection will be carried out through a competitive examination system ("Concurso-Oposición"). The recruitment process consists of two phases:
* Curriculum Analysis:
Evaluation of previous experience and/or scientific history, degree, training, and other professional information relevant to the position.
- 40 points
* Interview phase:
The highest-rated candidates at the curriculum level will be invited to the interview phase, conducted by the corresponding department and Human Resources. In this phase, technical competencies, knowledge, skills, and professional experience related to the position, as well as the required personal competencies, will be evaluated.
- 60 points. A minimum of 30 points out of 60 must be obtained to be eligible for the position.
The recruitment panel will be composed of at least three people, ensuring at least 25% representation of women. In accordance with OTM-R principles, a gender-balanced recruitment panel is formed for each vacancy at the beginning of the process. After reviewing the content of the applications, the panel will begin the interviews, with at least one technical and one administrative interview. At a minimum, a personality questionnaire as well as a technical exercise will be conducted during the process. The panel will make a final decision, and all individuals who participated in the interview phase will receive feedback with details on the acceptance or rejection of their profile.
