About the role
The Senior Underwriter A&H Spain, reporting to the Lead Underwriter, Iberia A&H, will contribute by underwriting new & renewal business, developing, and maintaining relationships with new and existing brokers, building strong client relationships, and working to carry out agreed strategies.
Job Responsibilities
* Manage underwriting to achieve profitable growth, including underwriting new business, renewals, quotes, and other transactions.
* Understanding of the local insurance broker community, plus the ability to build relationships with brokers, clients and senior management.
* Build and maintain appropriate, strong, and effective business relationships with stakeholders (Claims, Operations, Legal, Risk and Distribution Teams).
* Prepares policy writing instructions and premium billings; analyzes submissions for accuracy of policy issuance information from the broker, ensuring policies contain all compliance information as indicated on the hand-off sheet; and checks/signs policies prior to release.
* Identify growth opportunities and drive pipeline activity.
* Ensure governance, pricing adequacy, and underwriting discipline.
* Coordinate underwriting excellence across the A&H product line, by establishing and ensuring adherence to risk appetite, line setting, standards, and guidelines, and ensure rating and pricing adequacy.
* Support the development of new products and/or product enhancements.
* Underwrite and service risks an acceptable AIG standard.
* Produce files for Peer Reviews to the agreed AIG A&H Division standards.
* Proficient knowledge of key regulatory requirements.
* Ensure that AIG customers are treated fairly in accordance with AIG standards and maintain high service levels to both internal and external customers.
* Lead contract negotiation efforts with partners and the public sector, liaising internally with Legal & Compliance.
* Work with Marketing team to develop various sales collateral to support business development.
* Visit producers to establish effective relationships.
* Integrator: Collaborate with multiple technical, functional, distribution and client/broker management resources, local, regional, and global, across the wider business.
* Drive a culture that promotes collaboration, diversity, and inclusion.
Job profile
* Strong and relevant experience in A&H or related lines (Group and Individual PA, Travel, Expat Medical, Specialty Business, Affinity, among others).
* Fluent in Spanish and English. Portuguese is a plus.
* Strong sales and negotiation background: ability to influence others to develop business, negotiate agreement, with a strong understanding of sales process, including pre-sale and post-sale requirements of the business.
* Strong understanding of the Spanish insurance market and broker community (Corporate, Medium and Individual Brokers).
* Analytical and quantitative skills: Ability to read and analyze P&L statements with an understanding of the key performance indicators.
* Good risk analysis and technical skills.
* Portfolio discipline and problem‑solving orientation (willingness to roll up one's sleeves to get the job done).
* Knowledge of key regulatory requirements.
* Ability to maintain a flexible approach and adapt rapidly to changing work environments.
* Demonstrated success in using research, analytics, and testing methodologies to make business decisions.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams and cultivating a network of productive relationships.
* Proactive and team worker.
