Position Summary
The department seeks qualified candidate(s) to teach undergraduate courses such as:
*
* AFRS 10: Introduction to Africana Studies
* AFRS 15: Slavery and the American Experience
* AFRS 20: Critical Thinking About Race
* AFRS 27: Black Popular Culture
* AFRS 68: Black Protest
* AFRS 40: Law, Policing, and the Black Community
* or other courses as needed
Instructor Responsibilities
Temporary faculty members are responsible for adherence to and implementation of university and system-wide policies, preparation, delivery, proctoring, grading, and ensuring all classes meet as scheduled in the assigned modality.
Conditional Appointment
The appointment is contingent on budget and enrollment considerations and subject to Order of Work provisions. Appointees must demonstrate eligibility to work in the US; the university does not sponsor work visas.
Compensation
The salary ranges are within the CSU Salary Schedule (Class Code 2358) for Academic Year Lecturers. A Master’s degree holder may earn between $5,507 and $6,677 per month when teaching full time (15 WTUs). Starting salaries typically near the minimum of the range, with adjustments based on WTUs assigned.

Required Qualifications
*
* A Master’s degree with emphasis in Africana Studies or closely related field.
* Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications
*
* Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, demonstrated through prior teaching experience and evaluations.
* Successful teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
