Head of Computer Center (f / m / d) (future IT Services)

The Data Center department is responsible for IT operations, the further development of digital services, and the overall IT development of the university. As Head of the Data Center, you will play a key role: you will be responsible for implementing the IT strategy, managing the IT infrastructure, and leading a dedicated team. You will serve as the central point of contact for IT matters and advise university management on strategic IT issues. The Head of Data Center has creative scope for the strategic realignment of the IT department.
Your main areas of responsibility:
* Strategic & overarching tasks:
* Advising the Vice President for University Development and Digitalization in her role as Presidential CIO
* Developing and implementing the IT strategy in close coordination with the CIO
* Further developing the IT service portfolio, aligning it with university needs, managing the IT infrastructure, and implementing security concepts
* Budget responsibility, IT controlling of the department, and resource optimization
* Operational & management tasks:
* Managing the current four-person team, developing team structures and processes
* Acting as an escalation point for 2nd level support
* Responsibility for IT security, data backup, IT data protection, and emergency management
* Advancing the area with technological innovations, procedures, and operational security
* Planning, managing, and monitoring departmental goals
* Developing and overseeing service level agreements
* Managing IT projects collaboratively with the CIO and DTO
* Proactive communication within the team, with the university, and with partners
Your profile:
* Completed relevant university degree (Master's or diploma) in computer science or a comparable field
* Or a university degree (Bachelor or FH diploma) in computer science or comparable, with at least four years of professional IT experience
* Several years of management experience in strategic and operational management is advantageous
* Extensive specialist knowledge and practical experience in IT, ideally in Networks, Linux/Windows Server, Cloud technologies/infrastructures, RHEL/CentOS, Debian, Ubuntu
* Solid knowledge and experience with servers, storage, virtualization, IT operations, service desk, IT security, data protection, and network infrastructure (TCP/IP, switching, routing, firewalls, VPN)
* Experience coordinating IT projects
* Proficiency in (multi-)project management
* Excellent German language skills and good English knowledge
* Experience with university structures is a plus
* High initiative, analytical skills, and service orientation
* Negotiating skills and a strong sense of responsibility
* Ability to work well in a team
