Job DescriptionApplications are invited for a pre-doctoral research fellow position to join the CASES Research Group to work on the ROOTS project (The historical roots of global inequality) within the Department of Humanities. The successful candidate will carry out research tasks leading to the preparation of a doctoral thesis, in accordance with Article 21 of Law 14/2011, of June 1, on science, technology, and innovation.ResponsibilitiesThe selected candidate will work within the research line:
Data Management for Heritage, primarily on the ROOTS – The historical roots of global inequality project. This project is directed by the LUISS University - Italy, with Prof. Marco Madella serving as a partner and co-principal investigator at UPF in the CASEs (Culture, Archaeology and Socio-Ecological Dynamics) research group. The candidate will also be a member of the recently created UPF Centre for Digital Humanities at Pompeu Fabra University.The project will focus on the collection of archaeological data related to prehistoric storage to build an integrated database that will allow for the analysis of the emergence of different forms of taxation in prehistory. Also, the database will be used to explore and compare inequality at different cultural, geographical and chronological moments.The tasks and responsibilities for this position are as follows:
Collect archaeological data from different regions of the world.Integrate the data into the project database.Data analyses.The candidate could collaborate on teaching tasks for a maximum of 60 hours per academic year, should the Department of Humanities deem it necessary.Terms and conditionsApproximately €18,180.45 gross annually.The selected candidate will have a workspace at Pompeu Fabra University, in the Mercè Rodoreda building, Ciutadella Campus, in an office shared with other members of the group.Starting date:

Be admitted to and enrolled in the Doctoral Program in History at the time the contract begins.B. Not have been dismissed from public service through disciplinary proceedings, nor be disqualified by a final judgment from performing public functions. In the case of being a national of another State, not be disqualified or in an equivalent situation, nor have been subjected to a disciplinary or equivalent sanction that prevents, in their State, access to public sector jobs under the same terms.Specifica. Degrees (BA/BSc and Master) in Archaeology or cognate disciplines (e.G. Heritage)b. Expertise in archaeological data collection.C. Expertise in database construction.The following experience will be considered an added value during the selection process:

Knowledge of English.The selected individual will have the possibility to use part of the data collected in the ROOTS project to design a doctoral research project under the supervision of Prof. Marco Madella and Dr Valentina Tumulo (Universitá della Tuscia). The contract does not include any aid for doctoral tuition fees.These requirements must be met by the application deadline. D. Expertise with ArcGIS/QGIS/GRASS (3 point);
E. Expertise in the field of Prehistory (3 points);
F.
