Senior Supplier Quality Engineer, Infrastructure Reliability & Quality
Job ID: | Amazon Data Services Ireland Limited
Amazon Web Services Infrastructure Reliability & Quality (IRQ) engineering team provides engineering support for our data center infrastructure mechanical and electrical equipment (Air Handling Unit, Switchgear, Breaker, Panel Board, UPS, Transformers, Generators, ATS, etc.) as well as infrastructure security equipment (Cameras, Access Control, etc.) throughout their lifecycle. A critical piece of this support is ensuring the highest level of initial quality and ongoing support from our suppliers.
As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will ensure the highest standards of quality for AWS infrastructure equipment from supplier selection through field deployment. You will evaluate supplier capabilities through technical assessments and on‑site evaluations, investigate quality issues using analytical approaches including failure mode analysis, and apply engineering judgment to assess quality risks across design, manufacturing, and deployment stages. You will use critical thinking to drive field root‑cause analysis, identifying underlying failure mechanisms and developing effective corrective actions. Working closely with AWS Engineering teams, Procurement teams, Commissioning teams, and suppliers, you will develop data‑driven insights from supplier performance metrics and field observations to drive improvements that enhance equipment quality. You will partner with engineering teams to define equipment specifications and acceptance criteria, work with suppliers to implement improvements through technical guidance and capability building, and collaborate with commissioning and operations teams to translate field performance findings into actionable quality improvements. You will also build and maintain quality roadmaps that align with AWS infrastructure goals, analyze trends across multiple equipment categories and suppliers to identify systemic quality challenges, and manage multiple concurrent quality initiatives across different regions and equipment types.
Keys to success in this role include sound judgment and excellent written/verbal communication skills.
Travel required, both international and domestic, approximately 30–50%.
Key job responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain the supplier quality roadmap across engineering and procurement teams.
- Conduct technical investigations of equipment failures to understand root causes and prevent recurrence.
- Provide technical expertise on quality evaluation methods, testing approaches, and failure analysis techniques.
- Drive supplier and product qualification and assessment processes in support of procurement teams, including developing technical approaches for evaluating new equipment and suppliers entering the AWS ecosystem.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives that address both immediate quality issues and long‑term performance optimization.
- Develop and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor supplier quality performance and drive accountability.
- Work on concurrent projects, sometimes across multiple geographical regions.
A day in the life
Your day will be a dynamic blend of technical investigation, strategic problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration. You'll dive deep into equipment performance data, conduct detailed failure analyses, and develop innovative solutions that prevent future technical challenges. From remote meetings with global supplier teams to on‑site technical assessments, you'll be at the forefront of maintaining AWS's infrastructure excellence.
