Overview
The University of Hong Kong invites applications for the position of Teaching Assistant in the Faculty of Engineering (Ref.: ). The appointment is to commence as soon as possible for two years, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.
Role and focus
The Faculty of Engineering is introducing new hands-on, project-based learning experiences into its curriculum to foster active learning and deeper engagement among undergraduate students. These experiences are delivered through core, compulsory courses in the Engineering curriculum. We are seeking passionate candidates with practical skills and an interest in emerging engineering topics, such as Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and Digital Twins. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative teaching practices in engineering education.
Requirements
Applicants should hold a Bachelor's degree in engineering, a STEM-related field, or a related discipline. Strong written and spoken English communication skills are essential, and candidates must demonstrate the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Preference will be given to those with experience in teaching support, developing workshop materials, or mentoring student projects.
Desirable experience
Relevant hands-on experience in any of the following areas will be an advantage:
- Mechanical design and prototyping (e.g., 3D modeling, Scanning, printing)
- Electronics and circuit design (e.g., PCB, sensors, actuators)
- Embedded systems and microcontroller programming (e.g., ESP32, Raspberry Pi)
- Programming for engineering applications (e.g., Python, C/C++)
- Control systems and automation (e.g., PID controller, robot control)
- Large Language Models (LLMs), artificial intelligence, or embodied intelligence applications
- IoT or wireless communication technologies
- Experience in makerspaces, labs, or engineering workshops
Responsibilities
Successful candidates will work as part of a teaching team responsible for designing, preparing, and delivering hands-on courses for undergraduate students. Responsibilities include supporting workshops, laboratory sessions, and project-based learning activities; guiding and mentoring student teams; preparing teaching materials and resources; and providing feedback on student progress and assisting assessments. Candidates will also assist in organizing seminars, events, and industry collaboration initiatives, as well as contribute to the administrative coordination of active learning programs.
