Position Overview
You will own the product interface end‑to‑end: design and build intuitive, high‑performance web applications, define UX/UI patterns for AI‑assisted scientific workflows (e.g., chat interfaces, results visualizations), and collaborate closely with backend and AI teams to integrate complex functionality. You’ll also establish frontend standards (design system, component library, testing) and mentor mid‑level engineers as the team grows.
Your Mission
Frontend Development and Architecture
* Design, build, and maintain modern, responsive web applications using React (Next.js) and TypeScript.
* Develop high‑performance, reusable UI components and a scalable design system.
* Implement robust state management for complex workflows (e.g., Redux, RxJS).
* Build real‑time interfaces and dashboards; integrate FastAPI/REST/WebSockets/SSE.
* Ensure performance, accessibility, and responsive UX; optimize load time (lazy loading, caching, bundle size).
* Write clean, maintainable, well‑documented code; define testing strategy (unit, integration, smoke, e2e with Jest/Cypress/Playwright).
UX Design and User‑Centred Development
* Design and prototype intuitive UIs for complex technical workflows (prompt editing, model selection, results visualization).
* Conduct user testing and iterate based on feedback; ensure consistency across the product.
* Develop and maintain a design system and component library tailored to technical users (researchers, engineers, data scientists).
* Champion accessibility and pragmatic, outcome‑oriented UX for scientific/engineering users.
Collaboration and Technical Leadership
* Work closely with the Backend/Tech Lead on API design and with the AI Platform Engineer on model integration.
* Partner with the Product Owner to scope features and prioritise user experience; present demos and collect stakeholder feedback.
* Lead frontend architecture discussions, contribute to the technical roadmap, mentor engineers, and promote best practices.
Innovation and Continuous Improvement
* Research and evaluate emerging frontend/UX patterns; drive performance and developer‑experience improvements.
* Document design patterns, component APIs, and development guidelines.
* Drive automation in testing and CI/CD (e.g., GitHub Actions).

Key Requirements
* 7+ years of frontend development experience.

* Deep knowledge of CSS (SCSS/Tailwind), web performance, and accessibility; pragmatic SEO awareness.
* Experience with state management (Redux, RxJS).
* Knowledge of WebSockets and real‑time communication.
* Excellent collaboration and communication; fluent English (Spanish is a plus).
Highly Valuable
* Experience building AI‑powered UIs (e.g., chat/Copilot‑style, notebook/code editor interfaces).
* Background in scientific or technical product UX.
* Proficiency with Figma; understanding of REST/GraphQL.
