Job purpose and scope
We are seeking an experienced country manager to run our Maersk Project Logistics Team in Bilbao, Spain. This role has PnL responsibility and focuses on developing and managing our operations in Spain while delivering best‑in‑class solutions and exceptional service to our project logistics customers.
You will be accountable for solution design, operational delivery, team performance, and collaboration with commercial stakeholders to support and accelerate the sustainable growth of our MPL offering in Spain.

Key Responsibilities
- Accountable for the Spain MPL PnL and operational performance. Responsible for solution design and operational delivery as well as reporting financial and operational metrics to management as part of performance cycles.
- Design, quote, manage and execute complex, tailor‑made project logistics solutions, focusing on oversized cargo transportation across multiple market segments.
- Collaborate closely with Sales and Business Development to generate leads and support customer wins with technical know‑how and competitive, fit‑for‑purpose solution design and quotations.
- Foster and maintain strong client relationships, consistently delivering excellence.
- Oversee end‑to‑end project execution, including on‑site supervision through your team where required.
- Lead continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives, implementing processes to drive efficiency, cost leadership and high‑quality project execution across all assigned customer projects.
- Build a dynamic, diversified and competitive vendor network to bring maximum control, efficiency and value to meet the requirements of customer projects.
- Build a stable and scalable business in Spain and develop new operational capabilities to support the commercial growth ambition in Spain.
- Ensure adherence to MPL Standard Billing Cycle and Job Costing Policy and facilitate business controlling and financial month‑end activities.
- Full responsibility for building, leading, and developing the MPL execution and solution design team in Spain, effectively and efficiently managing resources and workload distribution.
- Act as a role model for Maersk values, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
We Are Looking For
- You are a proactive, customer‑centric and results‑driven leader with strong organizational and stakeholder management skills. - 10+ years of strong operational experience in local and end‑to‑end project coordination and execution within freight forwarding and/or project logistics, managing over‑dimensioned, out‑of‑gauge cargo or break‑bulk (sea and/or road).
- A demonstrated experience managing PnL and a track record of scaling revenue and profitability.
- Solid understanding of global trade and complex supply‑chain operations.
- Strong commercial mindset and understanding of customer service dynamics (prior experience in roles with direct customer exposure or managing client relationships is preferred).
- Proven leadership experience, with a focus on leading small, highly‑engaged and high‑performing teams and developing talent.
- Self‑starter and structured with a highly collaborative mindset and a hands‑on, “can‑do” approach.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a matrix organization with strong negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder management capabilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Spanish and English.
- Flexibility regarding working hours and willingness to travel as required.
