Assistant/Associate/Full Professor Positions in Ecology, Biodiversity Analytics and Conservation
IE University's School of Science and Technology invites applications for a full-time faculty position in Environmental Science with a specialization in Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation. We seek a dynamic scientist whose research links gene‑ and genome‑level evidence to ecosystem‑level biodiversity patterns and conservation decisions. The adecuado candidate develops and applies eDNA metabarcoding, shotgun metagenomics/Meta transcriptomics, and population/landscape genomics, and integrates these with spatial ecology and Earth observation to deliver decision‑ready biodiversity insights across terrestrial, freshwater, and/or marine systems. Senior candidates in other areas of quantitative conservation ecology will also be considered.
We value candidates eager to collaborate in applied research with IE’s Impact Xcelerator and external partners (public agencies, NGOs, industry), especially on biodiversity monitoring networks, nature‑based solutions, environmental analytics, climate adaptation and natural‑capital assessments. The ability to contribute to multidisciplinary initiatives that translate biodiversity data into actionable conservation and restoration strategies will be key to success in this role.
A doctoral degree in Ecology, Conservation Biology, Evolutionary Biology, or a related field is preferred. Prior teaching experience and evidence of academic or professional contributions in the field will be viewed favorably.
Faculty are expected to engage in high-quality research, pursue external funding, and contribute to curriculum development and university service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach at undergraduate and graduate levels (English) in Ecology, Animal & Plant Biodiversity, and Management & Conservation of Flora, Fauna & Protected Areas, and related areas.
- Conduct high‑impact, externally funded research in areas such as eDNA‑based biodiversity assessment, conservation genomics, genome‑resolved metagenomics, functional biodiversity and ecosystem resilience, macroecology + remote sensing integration, and decision science for conservation planning.
- Supervise and mentor students across undergraduate, graduate, and Ph.D. programs, build an inclusive, collaborative lab culture spanning wet‑lab and computational training.
- Collaborate with research and societal partners to co‑design and deploy monitoring pipelines, biodiversity indicators and conservation tools.
- Contribute to curriculum development, embedding reproducible research, FAIR data, and open science; keep courses aligned with emerging methods (long‑read sequencing, single‑cell, AI/ML for ecology).
- Participate in academic service and contribute to the strategic growth of the School of Science and Technology.
We offer:
- A competitive salary in line with top-ranked European academic institutions.
- A generous seed research fund to cover travel, equipment, and relocation costs.
- State-of-the-art campus facilities and support to build your lab infrastructure.
- A professional and stimulating international working environment with English as the de facto language.
- Full access to public health services through membership of the National Insurance Scheme plus a discount plan to acquire an additional private health insurance plan.
