EURECAT Eurecat is the second Research & Technology Organisation in Spain and one of the largest applied research and technology transfer organisations in Southern Europe. It brings together more than 800 professionals who generate an annual turnover of 69million euros and provide services to more than 2,000 companies. Eurecat integrates advanced digital capabilities and experience in biotechnology, industry and sustainability and collaborates with industry in R+D+I activities and projects, offering advanced scientific and technological services and specialised knowledge to meet the technological needs of a wide range of business sectors, accelerating innovation and reducing risks and costs associated with scientific and technological infrastructure. The technology centre participates in over 200 large national and international consortium projects, holds 230 patents and has 10 spin‑offs. Eurecat operates eleven centres in Catalonia and has a presence in Madrid, Malaga and Chile.
The Omics Sciences Unit is a scientific infrastructure equipped with the most advanced instruments on the market, including 2nd and 3rd generation sequencers (Illumina, Ion Torrent, Nanopore, and Luminex technologies) for studies in genomics, metagenomics, epigenomics and transcriptomics, and a wide range of nuclear magnetic resonance and liquid and gas chromatography equipment coupled with mass spectrometers, such as triple quadrupole, quadrupole‑time‑of‑flight and Orbitrap, for research in proteomics and metabolomics. An on‑site bioinformatics team is available to analyse and integrate all obtained data. The unit’s expertise is based on developing new advanced analytical methods to continuously innovate and solve large‑scale problems. Together with other technological units at Eurecat, it provides solutions to complex and specific issues across sectors including biomedicine, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, the environment, food, veterinary care and more.
Research Project
The unit is looking for a post‑doctoral researcher to carry out a research project titled “Technologies with potential applications in monitoring and managing environmental factors that link the exposome to neurodegenerative diseases.” The project focuses on exposomics and its relationship with the onset and progression of neurological diseases. The main goal is to develop advanced analytical methodologies to understand mechanisms by which environmental factors, such as pollutants, lifestyle and behavioural habits, and endogenous biochemical and genetic factors, influence the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate, technically and financially manage the project.
* Plan, supervise, execute and evaluate tasks and experimental results, including development of analytical methodologies on LC/GC‑MS platforms.
* Collaborate on other research projects within the Omics Sciences Unit, provide analytical services to private companies and public organisations, and offer client contact and advisory services.
Requirements
* PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Environmental Sciences or a related field, preferably with a focus on environmental sample analysis.
* Experience coordinating R&D&i projects and tasks.
* Extensive knowledge of LC/GC‑MS platforms.
* Previous work analysing environmental and/or exposome samples.
* Knowledge in toxicology highly valued.
* Experience with other omics technologies and statistical data analysis considered an advantage.
* High level of English (written and spoken). Good level of Spanish or Catalan considered an asset.
