The Utility Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of utility systems, including HVAC, water supply, power distribution, and gas networks. This role spans the entire project lifecycle—from concept to completion—ensuring compliance with the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and safety.
Key Responsibilities

* Serve as the primary point of contact for all discussions with engineering partners and contractors, ensuring clear communication and alignment on project objectives

* Optimize system performance and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
* Collaborate closely with engineering partners and contractors during construction activities
* Manage overall project execution for utility-related workstreams, ensuring timelines and quality standards are met
Project Description
The project involves the design, construction, and commissioning of a state-of-the-art facility in Gijón, Spain, dedicated to the production of Precursor Cathode Active Material (PCAM) and associated refining processes. This facility will play a critical role in supporting the growing demand for advanced battery materials, enabling sustainable energy solutions for the European market.
We are looking for local Spanish contractors.
Tasks and Responsibilities
* Act as technical lead for all project aspects related to HVAC and utilities
* Ensure compliance of assigned tasks with global engineering standards across the site
* Take full technical responsibility for construction and commissioning activities within assigned disciplines
* Demonstrate ownership and accountability for dedicated disciplines, introducing improvements, selecting optimal solutions, and safeguarding technical and financial interests (CAPEX and OPEX)
* Lead discussions on safety, design, construction progress, cost, and other project aspects
* Monitor and support procurement of critical equipment for investment projects
* Share knowledge and expertise within the local Utilities Engineering team and Global Engineering Team
* Review and provide feedback on all technical documentation (designs, as-built documentation, specifications, datasheets, material approvals, change requests, RFIs, submittals)
* Evaluate scopes of work for future investments for completeness and technical soundness
* Align technical solutions with designers and ensure consultation with Asset Management and Operations departments
* Monitor site irregularities and take corrective actions per agreed processes
* Verify equipment supplier schedules and subcontractor progress reports
* Control costs related to construction implementation and validate additional work proposals for technical and financial feasibility
* Identify and execute cost-saving opportunities through technical re-evaluation of contractor offers in collaboration with the CAPEX team
* Optimize technical solutions, equipment, and processes with a strong focus on OPEX savings
* Capture and implement lessons learned into future projects
* Support civil and construction design projects from initial planning and concept design to final implementation and testing
* Check detailed technical drawings, including P&ID diagrams, and ensure proper documentation for design processes
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, vendors, and clients, to ensure seamless project execution
* Address technical challenges, optimize designs for performance and manufacturability, and provide solutions during development and implementation phases
Technical Requirements
* 7+ years experience within Utilities design and commissioning within an industrial engineering environment
* Experience with AutoCad, Plant 3D, Naviswork and Autodesk
* Experience in managing greenfield projects under EPCm and EPC contract models
* Minimum 3 years of professional experience working on construction sites
* Solid understanding and application of health and safety regulations

Academic Requirements

* Fluent in Spanish and English, both spoken and written
* Strong practical English skills to read and interpret technical documents
* Ability to conduct technical and safety discussions confidently in English
Location:
* North of Spain, region of Asturia: Gijon
* Until end of 2026/beginning 2027 remote work, with visits to the site/partners covered via business travel expenses
* Travel will be required inside (mainly Barcelona) and outside Spain
