Vacuum engineer

Cerdanyola del Vallès
ALBA Synchrotron
Publicada el 18 mayo
Descripción

InstitutionALBA is the Spanish synchrotron light source, a large research infrastructure operating ten beamlines, complementary facilities, and an Electron Microscopy Center in partnership with other institutions. Currently constructing multiple more beamlines, expanding the Electron Microscopy Center, and integrating advanced data analytics, it provides a wide range of infrastructures geared toward finding solutions to societal challenges.

LocationLocated in Cerdanyola del Vallès (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain), it is funded by the Spanish Government and the Catalan Government. The synchrotron light produced by 3 GeV electrons is used by thousands of researchers to analyze and understand the properties and functionality of matter, spanning a wide variety of fields such as catalytic research, health, energy production/storage, environmental research, communication technologies, or cultural heritage.

Work EnvironmentOur highly motivated staff works in a multidisciplinary environment with an atmosphere of lived diversity, inclusion and respect. The gender equality plan aims to reach parity within the Consortium's divisions and offices, and numerous actions encourage applications from women, especially in scientific, engineering and technical positions.

Tasks

Take part in the design (from conceptual to detailed design) of the synchrotron vacuum systems, including chambers, supports, pumps, sensors, valves and their integration with the control system; generate specifications based on scientific needs, and write design reports and acceptance test reports.

Operate and maintain the existing vacuum and ultra‐high‐vacuum systems and scientific infrastructures of ALBA and ALBA II.

Specific Tasks

Contribute to the definition of the architecture and technical specifications of the vacuum systems that are part of the accelerator complex, carrying out the overall design and integration with the various subsystems.

Prepare technical specifications for public tenders for the procurement of equipment, goods and services for vacuum systems needed for operation and new developments undertaken by the cross‐section.

Perform technical functions in the execution of vacuum projects during the design, manufacturing, installation, quality testing and commissioning phases, interacting closely with internal and external scientific and engineering personnel.

Perform or supervise calculations and simulations using finite element analysis (FEA) and/or specific vacuum tools such as Molflow+ and Synrad+.

Manage and monitor project purchases with suppliers and the acquisition of equipment.

Maintain and update technical documentation and engineering drawings; design and develop multidisciplinary vacuum systems using advanced CAD tools, identifying and providing innovative solutions to complex technical problems and generating the corresponding manufacturing documentation.

Actively support the Vacuum Group Leader in the proper operation and maintenance of the vacuum laboratory (cleanroom) and the vacuum equipment warehouse, in accordance with ALBA standards.

Provide support to other groups and divisions (Experiments Division and Accelerator Division) in developing devices and systems that incorporate vacuum, and in the operation and maintenance of the vacuum systems of the beamlines and accelerators, addressing incidents and defining and executing necessary preventive and corrective maintenance at the engineering level.

Requirements

Master's degree in Industrial Engineering (specializing in mechanics, fluid dynamics or equivalent), Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering; alternatively, a double bachelor's degree in any of the previously listed disciplines.

Minimum of 2 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of vacuum systems; suitable if also 2 years' experience in the design and development of vacuum components.

Contract TypePermanent contract.

Equality and DiversityALBA is committed to promoting an inclusive work environment and is actively encouraging applications from under‐represented groups, especially women in scientific, engineering and technical roles.
