We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to oversee and enhance our financial operations, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of our financial processes in Spain. The ideal candidate will have a strong command of financial best practices, the ability to drive process improvements, and the analytical skills to support senior management in data-driven decision-making. This role will report directly to Finance Manager and collaborate closely with teams across departments, acting as a trusted advisor and business partner.
Responsibilities:
* Team Leadership and Coordination:
Lead and develop the finance team (currently 2 colleagues), ensuring the necessary support and resources are in place to complete tasks efficiently and to high standards. Foster a collaborative working environment that promotes continuous improvement and accountability.
* Financial Reporting and Closing :
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting to the Group. Prepare and review financial statements in line with accounting standards and company policies.
* Audit and Compliance :
Oversee the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors and providing necessary documentation and working papers. Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and internal controls.
* Tax and Statutory Requirements :
Coordinate the preparation and filing of annual tax returns and ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements in collaboration with external consultants. Monitor changes in tax regulations to optimize tax positions.
* HR and Legal Management :
Oversee HR and legal tasks, acting as the main point of contact for payroll consultants and legal advisors. Ensure accurate payroll processing, employee benefits administration, and legal compliance with employment laws.
* Internal Controls and Process Improvement :
Design, implement, and maintain effective internal controls, processes, and policies to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting. Identify and implement improvements to finance and IT systems.
* Financial Analysis and Business Partnering :
Act as a trusted business partner by providing value-added financial analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making across departments. Prepare financial forecasts, budgeting reports, and performance analyses to guide managers in achieving financial objectives.
* Accounting Operations and Controls :
Perform various control activities to verify accurate and compliant accounting entries. Regularly review journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger accounts.
* Ad-Hoc Projects and Special Initiatives :
Take the lead on or participate in special projects, such as ERP implementation, process automation, and other initiatives aimed at improving financial processes and reporting capabilities.
Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field;
CPA, CMA, or other relevant certifications are highly preferred.
* A minimum of 10 years of experience in accounting or financial management, with at least 5 years in a Controller or senior financial leadership role.
* Fluency in English, with strong conversational and written communication skills, as it will be used daily.
* In-depth knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, or relevant local accounting standards, with the ability to ensure compliance and accuracy.
* Advanced proficiency in Excel;
experience with Power BI is an advantage.
* Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, work under tight deadlines, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent organizational abilities to drive process improvements and accuracy.
* Exceptional communication skills, with the capacity to present complex financial data clearly and effectively to various stakeholders.
