Senior Software Engineer - Kubernetes Infrastructure

Your opportunity
At New Relic, we provide our customers with real-time insights to enable faster innovation. Our software offers comprehensive observability tools across various technologies and distributed systems, helping engineering teams identify, understand, and resolve issues, analyze performance, and optimize their software and infrastructure. The Kubernetes infrastructure team develops and maintains the backend systems for deploying and managing hundreds of Kubernetes clusters across our multi-cloud platforms, including Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google GCP. Our infrastructure relies on open-source components, and team members are encouraged to learn and contribute to these projects (e.g., Cluster API).
We promote asynchronous communication and independence while fostering strong human relationships through team ceremonies and in-person gatherings when possible.
What you'll do
* Build, maintain, and scale Go clients/projects and related support tools.
* Contribute to the development and management of New Relic's infrastructure.
* Engage with open-source projects to enhance your reputation and skills.
* Collaborate with team members to improve services and research new tools to solve complex problems.
* Deliver incremental updates frequently, ensuring continuous feedback.
* Work in an agile environment with a DevOps mindset, including participating in support rotations.
This role requires
* 4+ years of professional experience in software development and/or operations.
* BS/MS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
* Practical experience coding in Golang, Java, Python, or Bash.
* 4+ years experience with containerization tools such as Kubernetes, Istio, Cluster API, Crossplane, etc.
* Strong background in application/system programming and Linux system administration.
* Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
* Willingness to learn new programming languages.
* Deep understanding of security, reliability, performance, and cost-efficiency in distributed systems on cloud providers like AWS, Azure, and GCP.
Bonus points if you have
* Experience with CI/CD tools like Jenkins, Ansible, Travis CI, Circle CI.
* API design and development experience with Go.
* Cloud technology expertise in AWS, Azure, or GCP.
* Solid understanding of Linux OS, virtual machines, and containers.
