Hispasat, as part of the SpaceRISE consortium, is responsible for the technical implementation and ensuring the success of the IRIS² project, leveraging its extensive experience in satellite communications. This collaboration is essential to provide secure and reliable high-performance communication solutions to the European Union and its member states.
Position: Payload Engineer
We are seeking a Payload Engineer whose responsibilities will include:
* Activities: Support the definition, design, development, and oversight of a telecommunications satellite constellation program in the area of Repeater and Antennas (Payload). Support the definition, design, and development of telecommunications systems based on satellite technology.
* Responsibilities: Participate in Satellite Mission Definition activities, system specification definition, and contract negotiations. Prepare for and participate in payload unit, subsystem, and system design, manufacturing, and testing review meetings. Follow up and review payload design, development, manufacturing, and testing at all levels. Prepare for and participate in satellite launch campaigns and In Orbit Test Campaigns. Support Payload on-orbit health status follow-up. Prepare weekly activity reports.
Minimum Requirements
* Master’s Degree in Telecommunication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or similar.
* 10 years of experience in a similar position with hands-on exposure to payload procurement, equipment manufacturing, or in-orbit operations in GEO and/or LEO.
* Experience managing large EU and ESA projects.
* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Matlab, or similar.
Knowledge
* Knowledge in geostationary and LEO communication payload architectures and operations.
* Expertise in RF and microwave engineering, including analog signal chain design, high-power amplification, frequency conversion, filtering, and RF chain technologies.
* Strong skills in Digital Signal Processing (DSP), ASIC technology, active antennas, on-board digital processors, software-defined radio payloads, and 5G standards.
* Optical equipment and repeater RF performance measurement.
* Integration and testing at equipment, subsystem, and system levels, including In Orbit testing.
* Basic understanding of satellite platform engineering principles.
Additional Attributes
* Highly collaborative, capable of building relationships across levels and functions.
* Assertive in handling complex situations.
* EU native, willing to undergo EU secret clearance.
* Fluent in English; additional European languages are assets.
Location & Other Details
* Locations: Madrid / Toulouse.
* Facilities and sites as required, including ESTEC, European Commission, launch bases, and satellite facilities.
* Availability for 24/7 on-call support during satellite testing.
