Responsibilities
As a Senior Database Platform / Forward Deployed Engineer, you will play a key role in on‑boarding application teams to Azure database services, leading database migrations from Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server to Azure, and modernizing workloads toward PostgreSQL where feasible.
* Support multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTs) and product teams in onboarding to Azure database services (Azure SQL, Oracle on Azure, PostgreSQL).
* Assess existing on‑premises Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases, analysing migration feasibility, risks, and constraints.
* Define and drive end‑to‑end database migration strategies in collaboration with application teams.
* Execute migrations from on‑prem environments to Azure, with a strong preference for Azure SQL and Oracle DB services, and support transformation to PostgreSQL where technically and functionally feasible.
* Act as a technical bridge between application teams, Azure platform teams, central DB teams, and Oracle/Microsoft vendors.
* Enable left‑shifted database operations by introducing automation, self‑service patterns, and standardized operational models.
* Design and implement automation for database lifecycle operations such as:
o Provisioning
o Access management
o Backup & restore
o Monitoring
o Patching and basic operations
* Educate and coach application teams on cloud database concepts, platform standards, and operational responsibilities.
* Contribute to reusable templates, reference architectures, documentation, and onboarding assets to support Azure DB adoption at scale.
Qualifications
* 5–7+ years of hands‑on experience as a Database Engineer working with Oracle and/or Microsoft SQL Server in enterprise environments.
* Proven experience in migrating databases from on‑premises to Azure database services (Azure SQL, Oracle on Azure, PostgreSQL).
* Strong understanding of database fundamentals across on‑prem and cloud environments.
* Experience designing and implementing automated, self‑service database capabilities using Infrastructure as Code or platform tooling.
* Strong DevOps mindset and familiarity with “you build it, you run it” operational models.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, comfortable working across application, platform, and vendor teams.
* Pragmatic, solution‑oriented approach and ability to operate in complex, regulated enterprise environments.
* English at least B2+/C1.
