Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist – Spain (Hybrid)

About the role
We are looking for an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Specialist to lead and strengthen health, safety, security, and environmental practices across operations in Spain.
In this role, you will be responsible for embedding HSE standards into daily operations, ensuring full regulatory compliance, and fostering a strong, proactive safety culture. You will collaborate closely with global HSE teams to translate international strategy into effective local execution while continuously improving performance across multiple sites.
Key responsibilities
* HSE Compliance & Governance
* Ensure compliance with Spanish occupational health, safety, and environmental legislation, aligned with corporate HSE policies and standards.
* Strategy & Continuous Improvement
* Develop and implement national HSE frameworks, objectives, KPIs, and improvement plans to drive operational excellence and a strong safety culture.
* Risk Management & Audits
* Lead risk assessments, internal audits, and control measures to maintain safe, compliant, and sustainable workplaces.
* Training & Safety Leadership
* Design and deliver HSE training programmes, promoting safety leadership, awareness, and behaviour-based safety practices.
* Incident Management & Reporting
* Oversee incident reporting, investigations, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and regulatory reporting.
* Stakeholder & Global Collaboration
* Act as the key HSE contact in Spain, working with internal teams, external authorities, and global HSE communities to share best practices and drive consistency.
What you bring
* Proven experience in Occupational Health & Safety / HSE, ideally within fast-paced, multi-site or operational environments
* Experience working with trade unions, regulatory bodies, and external stakeholders
* Academic degree in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field
* Fluent Spanish and English, with strong communication and influencing skills
* Experience implementing and maintaining formal HSE management systems (ISO 45001 knowledge is a strong plus)
* Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to influence across a matrixed, international organisation
* Proactive, hands-on mindset with a passion for building new processes and driving continuous improvement
* Comfortable working with digital tools and modern collaboration platforms
