Description
BOLD is committed to shaping the future of high-performance mobility from Formula 1 to defense, aviation and marine. In our mission to deliver innovative and impactful products in the mobility sector, we are building the company whilst working with clients in exciting engineering and manufacturing challenges.
We are a leading company in advanced technology and engineering, operating through two highly complementary divisions and delivering critical solutions for mission-essential applications.
BOLD Technologies (BT) Designs, develops and manufactures high-voltage battery systems and electric propulsion system components for defence applications, tactical vehicles, military platforms, aviation and advanced mobility. BOLD is an international benchmark in defence electrification, supplying systems to United States Army programmes and collaborating with leading defence primes in the US and Europe.
BOLD Applied Engineering (BAE) Provides top-tier professional engineering services, primarily to elite motorsport teams (especially Formula 1), in areas such as composite design, mechanical engineering, aerodynamics and systems integration. This expertise is transferred directly to complex defence sector programmes.
Together, BT and BAE allow BOLD to offer a unique blend of technology, engineering services, and execution capability to elite customers operating at the highest levels of performance.
We are looking for a Battery Thermal Simulation & Cell Development Engineer to take ownership of thermal development across our battery systems while driving the evaluation and integration of next‐generation lithium‐ion cell technologies. This is a highly technical and impactful role, combining thermal modelling, CFD simulation, and cell technology scouting, supporting projects from early concept through validation and industrialisation. You will play a critical role in ensuring our systems meet aggressive targets for performance, safety, packaging, and thermal stability in high-demand environments such as motorsport and defense.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain 1D thermal models for battery systems, modules, and cells
Build and run 3D CFD simulations to analyse cooling performance and thermal behaviour
Predict and optimise battery performance under high-power duty cycles and extreme conditions
Design and improve thermal management systems (liquid, air, immersion, advanced concepts)
Perform steady‐state and transient simulations, correlating results with test data
Identify thermal risks early and define pragmatic mitigation strategies
Evaluate and benchmark new lithium‐ion cell technologies and suppliers
Lead technical discussions with suppliers on thermal behaviour, ageing, safety, and performance
Support system architecture decisions, DVP definition, and validation activities
Contribute to customer proposals, technical reviews, and cross‐functional collaboration
