Position: Mechanical Design Engineer
Lonza is hiring a Mechanical Design Engineer for the Project Engineering Team, which manages the CapEx program and develops engineering technical designs. The design engineer is responsible for delivering engineering discipline outputs for CapEx projects, ensuring they meet user requirements, specifications, relevant regulations, and stakeholder expectations (Sponsor/End User, MSAT, Process, Construction, Operations Technology, CQV, Quality, EHS, Procurement), while adhering to project goals in cost, time, and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Define and generate all discipline deliverables (specifications, drawings, lists, scopes, protocols, etc.) up to the final review 'as built', including support for bid packages.
2. Perform calculations and studies necessary for design development.
3. Plan design activities, defining efforts and sequences.
4. Estimate costs and define bases for discipline cost estimates.
5. Incorporate constructability, operability, maintainability, and safety considerations in design, collaborating closely with Construction, Operations, Maintenance, and EHS.
6. Maintain and archive discipline plant master documentation.
7. Create change requests, technical reports, and optimization studies.
8. Perform, witness, or review FAT/SAT of equipment.
9. Assess impacts of design changes on schedule, cost, and resources.
10. Develop databases of suppliers, installers, equipment, components, and materials.
Key Requirements:
1. MSc in Industrial Engineering or BSc in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Native Spanish speaker and fluent in English (minimum B2).
3. At least 5 years of experience in a similar role, with demonstrable expertise in mechanical and piping facilities design or erection within industrial environments.
4. Experience designing utility systems such as steam, clean steam, reverse osmosis, purified water, compressed air, HVAC, and wastewater treatment.
5. Knowledge of international design standards (ASME, UNE-EN-ISO) and Spanish safety regulations.
6. Knowledge of pharmaceutical sanitary design and regulations (FDA cGMP, ASME-BPE, ISPE guidelines).
7. Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Project, and MS Excel.
8. Ability to analyze large and complex data sets.
9. Effective influencing and persuading skills.
10. Understanding of business impacts of decisions.
11. Positive, proactive, diligent, engaged, and communicative personality.
