About the Role
Do you love science but feel that a career at the bench isn't enough to sate your desire to learn more about the world? If you enjoy reading papers outside your chosen area of research and you have expertise in computational social science such as evolutionary game theory, agent‐based modelling, and computational behavioural economics, we invite you to join the editorial team of Nature Communications.
Responsibilities
Handle original research papers and work closely with other editors on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
Make well‐reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
Determine the representation of your subject area in the journal.
Liaise extensively with editors at other journals in the Nature family and with experts in the international scientific community.
Attend conferences and visit research institutions.
Commission and edit reviews, and write editorials.
Qualifications
A PhD (or equivalent) in a field related to computational social science.
Significant research experience is preferred.
A thorough understanding of recent trends and developments in the field is essential.
A passion for science and a thirst to learn more, with demonstrated breadth of interest in scientific research both within and beyond your specialty.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and fluency in English (written and spoken).
The ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research submitted to the journal from different areas of this discipline.
Enthusiasm for travel and for meeting scientists worldwide to learn about their research and to share what we are looking for in the papers we publish.
Editorial experience is not required, although applicants with significant editorial experience are encouraged to apply and may be considered for Senior Editor positions.
The successful candidates will report to a Chief Editor in the health and clinical sciences division at Nature Communications.
Location
Position available in New York, Madrid, or Shanghai offices (hybrid working).

Salary
US Annualized Base Salary: Associate Editor: $80,000 / Senior Editor: $95,000. Salary may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
