Offer Description
Context And Mission
The Computational Biology group, led by ICREA professor Alfonso Valencia, is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher to work in the context of structural bioinformatics.
The Life Sciences Department at BSC integrates the research of senior scientists working on various aspects of computational biology, ranging from bioinformatics for genomics to computational biochemistry and text mining. The Computational Biology group ( is involved in multiple projects covering a wide range of topics including protein design, multilayer network modeling, epigenomics, and computational systems biology.
The selected candidate will work in collaboration with senior researchers in the Computational Biology group of the Life Sciences Department, as well as with other research groups at BSC. The work aligns with the group's research lines on personalized medicine, protein design, and protein structure-function analysis.
The Researcher will have access to a highly sophisticated HPC environment and cutting-edge computational infrastructures, collaborating with experts at both national and international levels. Key responsibilities include developing and applying ML/AI methods for protein design, protein-protein interaction predictions, and stability analysis of protein structures in response to single or multiple amino acid mutations.
Key Duties
* Participate in national and European research projects focused on structural bioinformatics and protein design.
* Develop and apply cutting-edge ML/AI methods for protein design and the study of relevant biological problems involving proteins.
* Investigate protein-protein interaction networks across different organisms using coevolution-based and AI-based approaches.
* Attend scientific conferences, workshops, and training sessions to advance professional development.
* Contribute to grant writing and funding proposals.
* Establish and maintain collaborations with national and international researchers.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Ph.D. in Structural Bioinformatics or related field.
* Proven experience in protein sequence/structure modeling and analysis.
* Hands-on expertise in ML/AI methodologies applied to biology.
* Programming skills in Python.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
* Experience in protein design and synthetic biology projects.
* Expertise in molecular dynamics simulations.
* Knowledge of complex networks analysis (graph representation, graph analytics).
* Solid foundation in traditional statistics and ML methods.
* Familiarity with HPC environments.
* Fluency in spoken and written English.
Competences
* Capacity to initiate and explore new research directions.
* Good communication and presentation skills.
