Process Safety Manager:Location: Madrid, SpainProject Phase: Pre-FEED, FEED & Project ExecutionOverview:We are seeking a Process Safety Manager to lead the development and implementation of process safety strategies on a large-scale green ammonia project.The role will focus heavily on pre-planning and planning phases, ensuring safe design from concept through to execution.Key Responsibilities:Process Safety Strategy & Planning:Develop and implement the process safety framework during early project phasesDefine process safety philosophies, design criteria, and standards aligned with international regulationsEnsure integration of inherently safer design principles across the projectHazard Identification & Risk Management:Lead and facilitate HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, and QRA studiesIdentify major accident hazards associated with hydrogen and ammonia production, storage, and handlingEnsure appropriate risk mitigation measures are implemented in designFunctional Safety & Systems:Define and oversee Safety Instrumented System requirementsReview and approve ESD systems, fire & gas detection, and protection systemsEnsure alignment with project safety integrity levels and lifecycle requirementsPre-Planning & Design Integration:Act as a key interface between engineering, process, and project teamsEnsure process safety is embedded into design reviews, P&IDs, and layout developmentSupport selection of technologies for electrolysis, hydrogen handling, and ammonia synthesisRegulatory & Compliance:Ensure compliance with European and Spanish regulationsSupport preparation of safety cases, HAZID reports, and regulatory submissionsInterface with authorities and third-party auditors as requiredRequirements:Degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline5+ years’ experience in process safety within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Hydrogen, or similar industriesProven experience in large-scale CAPEX projects, ideally from concept through FEEDStrong knowledge of:Hydrogen and/or ammonia processesProcess safety methodologiesFunctional safety standards
