Founded in 2011, PLD Space is a high-tech engineering, manufacturing, and service-driven company with expertise in space launch technologies. We are a global leader in disrupting access to space, aiming to make space more accessible and support missions that enhance our knowledge, safety, and wealth. Our purpose is to enable progress from space, enriching lives on Earth by advancing new economies, people, and the world.
Mission
Join our Structures Team to participate in the development of mechanisms for our PLD Space launch vehicles.
Responsibilities
* Design mechanisms and their components from concept to detailed design, including selection of standard parts like fasteners and bearings.
* Conduct functional, kinematic, and clash analyses; select materials based on operating conditions and environment.
* Research locking and releasing systems, rotating mechanisms for vacuum and thermal extremes.
* Integrate actuators, electronic, and pneumatic systems per specifications, collaborating across departments.
* Create engineering documentation: 3D models, drawings, BOMs, reports, and manuals.
* Coordinate with other engineering teams for data and support manufacturing and supply chain processes.
* Ensure designs meet specifications, requirements, and interface definitions through all development stages.
* Participate in design reviews focusing on feasibility, delivery, and costs.
* Optimize performance and weight, and identify cost reduction opportunities.
* Complete tasks on time, within quality and budget constraints.
* Over 3 years of parametric modeling experience using Siemens NX and PDM tools (Teamcenter).
* Knowledge of aerospace parts dimensioning and tolerancing standards (ASME Y14.5, ISO 1101).
* Experience in mechanism design and standard component selection.
* Familiarity with manufacturing technologies like machining, forming, welding, and composites.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor’s in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or relevant experience.
* At least 5 years in aerospace or mechanisms design engineering.
* Knowledge of design criteria, materials, and mechanical properties relative to operational conditions.
* Expertise in stack-up analysis and mechanism kinematics.
* Advanced CAD skills and PDM tool proficiency.
* Experience designing mechanisms for rockets or satellites.
* Familiarity with standards like ECSS-S-ST-33.
* Design experience for components under extreme conditions.
* Knowledge of corrosion protection and surface treatments.
* Understanding of aerospace-grade materials and lightweight alloys.
* Self-motivated, able to work under pressure, and manage multiple tasks.
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
