Dr. José A. Iglesias Guitián and Dr. Omar Álvarez Mures are seeking exceptional researchers who hold PhDs (with no more than 8 years of full-time equivalent research experience) and are interested in pursuing research projects within their team, in the framework of the Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships 2025.
Research Group – XLab
The Computer Graphics & Visual Computing (XLab) is an interdisciplinary research team focused on advancing the state of the art in computer graphics, scientific visualization, and visual computing applied to different domains. Their work spans several key areas, combining theoretical research with practical applications.
In the field of Computer Graphics, the group develops algorithms and models for creating and manipulating visual content. Their work includes realistic image synthesis, procedural content generation, and digital twins. They focus particularly on advanced ray tracing techniques—such as acceleration structures, global illumination, denoising, and real-time rendering—to push the boundaries of visual fidelity and performance.
The lab is also active in Scientific Visualization and High-Performance Computing, transforming complex data into intuitive visual representations. They specialize in volumetric rendering for fields like medical imaging and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).
In Virtual Reality (VR), XLab works on immersive environments and interaction techniques, aiming to improve realism and usability across applications in education, medicine, and entertainment. The group maintains strong collaborations with industry and academic partners worldwide.
Project overview
The proposed MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship project may be linked to the following topics:
* The medical visualization research line focuses on 3D reconstruction, exploring GPU-based Monte Carlo rendering and denoising to achieve interactive high-quality 3D visualizations. Recently, we become also interested in AI-driven image-based reconstructed 3d visualizations (NeRF/3DGS) as alternative 3d volume representations. Our goal is to develop new methods and tools that enhance diagnostic practice and improve medical decision-making through advanced visualization technologies. More info: CineM3D .
* The CFD research line focuses on improving Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) by leveraging Artificial Intelligence. We have four main research avenues: (1) neural compression techniques to manage massive CFD datasets, (2) new AI-based meshing techniques, (3) AI-driven methodologies for CFD simulation, including flow field prediction, data interpolation for enhanced resolution, or design optimization, and (4) online simulation visualization and AI training. More info: Astro Lab .
* Our work also spans the creation of photorealistic and procedurally generated datasets that address data scarcity, bias, and annotation challenges in computer vision and AI tasks. We develop scalable pipelines that combine simulation, domain randomization, and generative AI to produce data with high diversity and realism. The project is expected to adopt a highly interdisciplinary and applied approach, combining engineering, computer science, and information systems. The candidate will also have opportunities to engage in ongoing projects and develop collaborations with other CITIC -affiliated research teams. More info: UrbanSyn .
