Role & Responsibilities
This Manager & Counsel position will provide legal support to American Express’s business in Spain, our legal hub used to provide services across Continental Europe and EEA. This role will report to the VP & Senior Counsel, Lead Market Lawyer for Spain.
Here’s just some of what you’ll do in this role:
Provide practical, business-oriented legal advice on different areas of laws, such as payment services regulation, anti-money laundering, consumer protection, commercial agreements, company law, and data protection.
Identify and interpret new laws or changes in laws impacting the business activities of Amex in Spain, and partner with colleagues from GCO and Government Affairs to monitor legislative initiatives in EMEA and Spain.
Draft and negotiate all types of business contracts and communications, including the company’s terms & conditions.
Support strategic marketing initiatives, agreements, and new product and service development initiatives.
Identify and manage legal risks effectively.
Lead and project manage GCO initiatives and tasks.
Represent GCO at important meetings or committees independently.
Provide strategic and tactical guidance to middle and senior management to ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
Oversee litigation processes.
Proactively protect the brand and reputation of American Express through legal advice and internal advocacy.
Manage external counsel budgets to ensure cost-effective legal advice across supported countries.
Minimum Qualifications
Spanish law qualifications with relevant experience in the financial sector, preferably with payment services experience. Willing to learn and become an expert in this field.
3+ years of post-qualification experience.
Fluent in English and Spanish.
