The research group “Epidemiology of Mental Health Disorders and Ageing” led by Dr. Josep Maria Haro seeks a postdoctoral researcher to work in the Epidemiology of Youth Mental Health research line, together with Dr. Rodrigo Antunes Lima.
We offer a 12-month contract, with the possibility of renewal. The main responsibility of this postdoctoral position is to support the conduction of two EU-funded projects: the e-Intervention Enhancing Mental Health in Adolescents (IMPROVA project) (https://www.improva-project.eu/) and the ePlatform for Promoting Health in Schools project (ePro-Schools) (https://www.linkedin.com/company/epro-schools/?viewAsMember=true).
IMPROVA Project
IMPROVA aims to co-design, pilot, evaluate, and facilitate the upscaling of a modular eHealth intervention platform to improve mental health and wellbeing, detect mental health issues early, and prevent common mental problems in adolescents. It will be implemented in school settings and involve adolescents, parents, teachers, and school staff through various modules based on materials tested in over 20 projects. The platform will be co-created with stakeholders, including adolescents, parents, teachers, school staff, schools, and policymakers. The project involves an international, interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners from fields such as medicine, education, psychology, sociology, public health, economics, UX design, computer science, and law. After pilot testing, IMPROVA will be implemented via a cluster randomized controlled trial in secondary schools across France, Germany, Romania, and Spain, involving 8,000 adolescents. An extensive evaluation will assess effectiveness, implementation, economic impact, and social return on investment. The project aims to generate evidence-based guidance for scaling up the platform, empowering adolescents and families, and providing tools to improve mental health and reduce stigma in society.
ePro-Schools Project
ePro-Schools will co-design, pilot, and evaluate an evidence-based modular eHealth platform to promote physical activity, healthy eating, and reduce sedentary behaviors among adolescents. The development process includes marketing surveys and focus groups with adolescents, teachers, school directors, and policymakers, along with adaptation of previous interventions. The platform will feature modules for adolescents, parents, teachers, and school administrators, with content applicable both within and outside school settings. The project will evaluate data from registers and cohorts to identify schools with socially disadvantaged adolescents for a randomized controlled trial. Using implementation science methodology, ePro-Schools will develop transferable practices and guidance for scaling up, involving policymakers and stakeholders, and informing professionals and the public.
