Role overview
Based at our Cornellà site, this position combines global Supplier Quality Management with the full responsibility and authority of a Certified Welding Engineer (CWE). The role acts as the welding authority within the supplier landscape, ensuring compliance, qualification, and continuous improvement of welding‐related processes in the railway environment.
Key responsibilities
Act as CWE / welding authority for global suppliers, ensuring compliance with EN 15085, AWS, and related standards.
Lead supplier welding qualifications, welding procedure qualifications, welder approvals, and audits (internal & external).
Drive strategic supplier quality development, including qualification, pre‐assessments, audits, and continuous improvement programs.
Lead SQM activities within projects (D2C, part qualification, risk assessments, specification reviews).Manage supplier quality escalations and support root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Contribute to commodity strategies, sourcing decisions, and supplier evaluations as SQM representative.
Define and deploy commodity‐specific quality and welding requirements across the global supplier base.
Support contract related quality topics (QAA, QRS).
Promote global knowledge sharing, lessons learned, and best practices related to welding and fabrication.
Required qualifications & experience
Certified Welding Engineer background is mandatory:
IWE / EWE diploma with minimum 2 years of active railway experience.
IWT / EWT diploma with minimum 5 years of active railway experience.
Proven hands‐on experience in:
Supplier welding audits
Welding procedure and welder qualifications
Evaluation of work samples / mock‐ups
Visual inspection of welded products
Minimum 2 years' experience in thin sheet metal welding (1–5 mm) including flame straightening.
Solid knowledge of weldability, filler materials, heat treatment, and welding metallurgy.
Professional experience with welding processes 135, 141, 21, 23, 78.
Strong ability to read and interpret technical and welding drawings
Experience with CAD tools (NX, Creo) and measurement equipment.
Engineering & quality background
Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field.
3–5 years of experience in Supplier Quality Management or Quality Management.
Strong knowledge of APQP, PPAP, Six Sigma, and international quality standards.
Technical expertise in either:
Mechanical commodities (casting, machining, cooling components, busbars).
Electrical commodities (switching devices, contactors, fuses, wire harnesses, cable assemblies).
Additional requirements
Confident professional communication in English.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across all organizational levels.
High resilience and ability to perform in high‐pressure environments.
Full flexibility and willingness to travel extensively.
Proficient use of Microsoft Office and standard business tools (Outlook, SharePoint).
Optional / desirable
VT 2 / PT 2 certification.
Experience with UT, MT, RT inspection methods.
Knowledge of additional welding/brazing processes (12, 51, 52, 9).
Experience with DVS, EN 15085 (all parts), ECWRV, AWS standards.
EN 15085 Auditor certification.
