Offer Description
We announce one PhD position within the TRansient Plasmas in Planetary Atmospheres (TRAPPA) group at the IAA - CSIC in Granada, Spain. The PhD will investigate atmospheric electricity phenomena, focusing on lightning's chemical role in the atmosphere, using optical measurements, satellite data, ground-based measurements, and modeling tools such as WRF and data from ESA's ASIM mission.
The position is for 3 years full-time, with a possible 1-year extension, starting around September 16, 2025. Salary is €1600/month with social security coverage.

Requirements
* Master's degree in physics, applied mathematics, or meteorology
* High proficiency in programming (Python, Fortran) and data analysis
* Excellent command of English (C1 level)
* Interest in satellite data analysis and atmospheric modeling is a plus
Additional Information
Living expenses in Granada are lower than in other parts of Spain. The gross salary is €1600/month with 14 payments annually. The position involves analyzing data from Meteosat satellites and investigating lightning's chemical effects using models like WRF.

Applicants without a master's but planning to complete it by September 2025 can apply, provided they register as doctoral students by then.
