Network Development Manager, Internet Capacity Engineering

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We support all AWS data centers and every component of the systems that keep the cloud running. This role sits within the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Networking team and leads a team of highly qualified network development engineers to deliver an Internet connectivity experience that sets the global standard for AWS network performance, availability, security and cost.
Key Job Responsibilities
* Lead a high‑performing engineering team, working closely with partner teams.
* Architect, design, manage, implement and deploy Internet capacity at scale, ensuring alignment with demand and safety.
* Drive operational excellence through change control, automation, and innovation initiatives.
* Optimize operations and processes using data, metrics, and dashboards.
* Collaborate with internal customers, partner teams, and stakeholders on planning and delivery of Internet capacity.
* Own goal‑setting, delivery, and communication of strategy to the team and wider leadership.
* Manage performance and career development for the team, including one‑on‑one meetings and training.
* Lead recruiting and hiring activities, from phone screens to on‑site interviews, ensuring proper onboarding and training for new hires.
* Develop automation roadmap and opportunities to tackle volume and critical operational issues.
* Participate in a 12x7 management escalation rotation and perform 7x8x365 operational oversight.
Basic Qualifications
* 5+ years of engineering experience.
* 5+ years of people‑management or relevant leadership experience.
* 3+ years of past experience with network operations as a manager or individual contributor.
Preferred Qualifications
* Deep experience creating and implementing high‑volume recruiting plans.
* Experience presenting root cause analysis and corrective action to senior management.
* Working knowledge of developing operational metrics and dashboarding.
* Strong networking knowledge (TCP/IP, routing, switching, troubleshooting).
* Experience representing technical areas to senior leadership.
* Experience defining and implementing automation opportunities within operations.
