Role Description The Environmental Health Safety (EHS) Specialist is a part-time remote role responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring EHS policies and procedures across Global Farm Trust’s projects and operations. This role involves assessing environmental and occupational health risks, reviewing farm and project plans for compliance with regulatory and internal EHS standards, and recommending risk mitigation measures.
The specialist will conduct virtual safety audits, incident reviews, and root-cause analyses, and will prepare clear reports and action plans for project teams and leadership. They will design and deliver remote safety training and awareness sessions for staff, partners, and farming communities, with a focus on safe agricultural practices and climate-smart operations. The role also includes staying current with relevant EHS regulations and best practices in the regions where Global Farm Trust operates and supporting continuous improvement of EHS performance.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Health & Safety and Occupational Health, with the ability to design and implement practical EHS procedures in agricultural and rural settings.
- Experience in Environment Health and Safety (EHS) and Workplace Safety, including risk assessments, incident investigations, and compliance monitoring.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver Safety Training, especially for diverse, non-technical audiences in remote or hybrid formats.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Agriculture, Engineering, or a related field; relevant EHS certifications (e.g., NEBOSH, OSHA, IOSH) are an advantage.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainable agriculture practices, and ESG principles, particularly in emerging markets or rural contexts.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and documentation skills, with attention to detail and the ability to communicate complex EHS issues clearly.
- Ability to work independently in a remote, cross-cultural environment and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary and community-based teams.
- Prior experience in agriculture, agribusiness, or development projects, and familiarity with climate-smart or resource-efficient farming practices
