Software Development Manager BDQ (Books Data Quality) owns the accuracy of book metadata across Amazon’s general catalog—author attribution, series linking, categorization, publisher relationships, and entity resolution. We’re replacing legacy heuristic systems with LLM‑powered inference at catalog scale.

We need an SDM to lead one of our engineering teams. You’ll manage people, own technical delivery, and drive migration off legacy systems.
Responsibilities
People management: hire, develop and retain SDEs, run performance cycles, build promo cases, and coach engineers through the challenge of shipping systems where 97% precision can still mean millions of wrong records.
Technical ownership: own production inference systems, data pipelines and catalog services; determine hosting choices (Bedrock, SageMaker or self‑hosted) and manage inference costs as volume grows.
Lead the migration from legacy heuristic systems to LLM‑powered inference across catalog scale.
Basic Qualifications
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
Experience in leading the definition and development of multi‑tier web services.
Experience managing engineers.
Experience partnering with product and program management teams.
Experience in engineering.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience communicating with users, other technical teams and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs and product strategy.
Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills and become more effective, product software engineers.
