Senior DevOps Engineer - Cloud & Observability
6-12 month Contract
100% Remote
We're seeking a Senior DevOps Engineer with deep expertise in cloud platforms, observability, and modern infrastructure-as-code practices. This is a hands-on role for a proactive, autonomous professional with at least 8 years of experience, a strong technical foundation, and a passion for building reliable, scalable, and secure systems.
What You'll Do
* Lead the migration of monitoring systems from Splunk to New Relic, ensuring full coverage, minimal disruption, and improved performance.
* Design and implement governance in New Relic, including account structures, tagging, alerting, dashboards, SLOs, and best practices.
* Define and champion observability ways of working, aligning engineering teams and driving continuous improvement.
* Build technical foundations in New Relic: logs, APM, infrastructure, distributed tracing, synthetics, and integrations.
* Collaborate with application teams to onboard services, ensuring proper instrumentation and data visibility.
* Automate observability configurations using Terraform and integrate them into GitHub-based CI/CD pipelines.
* Provide guidance on Azure, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and observability best practices.
* Align monitoring and alerting with business-critical SLIs/SLOs for proactive detection and rapid troubleshooting.
* Continuously improve operational reliability, performance, and security.
What We're Looking For
Core Technical Skills
* New Relic (Expert): Dashboards, alerts, APM, logs, distributed tracing, synthetics, performance tuning
* Azure Cloud (Advanced): Resource management, networking, IAM, governance, cost controls
* Terraform (Expert): Modular IaC, provisioning, state management, automation
* GitHub (Advanced): GitHub Actions, CI/CD, repository governance, security features
Nice-to-Have Skills
* Splunk, SonarCloud, OPA/Conftest, Kubernetes
Soft Skills
* Autonomous, proactive, and highly self-driven
* Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to translate technical concepts for varied audiences
* Ownership mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
