Overview
GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Head of WTGs is responsible for defining the WTG requirements and to follow up projects in advance stages, finding best practices between projects and capture them at corporate level. Reporting to the Engineering Director, it is expected to be the group’s lead on projects being co-developed with partners, with projects being developed in house or where investment opportunities are being assessed for the packages being responsible for. The position will work with staff seconded into projects in the related technical areas to ensure all of them meet the company’s requirements and to continuously improve those projects and corporate activities to or above industry best practices.
Responsibilities
- Accountability for the technical analysis and definition of the WTG work packages associated with the bids preparation/acquisitions/due diligence for projects.
- Lead the team reporting to the role, ensuring sufficient project team resource is applied to deliver the work, the team is provided with direction and support.
- Ensure the function has the required capabilities, skills and capacity to deliver on objectives, on time and on budget, including by sourcing and monitoring external contractors.
- Definition and estimation of headcounts and levels for project construction in development stages and creation/development of construction plannings for different projects and opportunities in early development stages.
- Collaborate with procurement to develop and maintain solid relationships with key suppliers across the construction services supply chain.
- Prepare, elaborate and provide all specifications and technical documentation to allow project engagement and supplier evaluation, with the aim of guaranteeing correct application, bidding, construction and operation, ensuring compliance with Permitting requirements.
- Prepare RFPs, assess offers, select the most competitive and adequate wind turbines and monitor contractors for engineering studies and multi-EPC/EPCI contracts.
- Ensure wind turbine activities are in accordance with applicable standards, legislation, ethics, and best practices across the offshore wind farms industry, tender requirements, regulatory aspects and project policies.
- Provide ongoing technical support including innovation and liaise with other technical and corporate areas to ensure successful project completion across the lifecycle.
- Provide technical inputs to CAPEX economic modelling on the packages under responsibility, including schedules and quality requirements; contribute to bids/acquisitions, progress reports and presentations of the technical department.
- Provide lessons learned and tools for standardization and industrialization related to WTG.
- Identify, assess and ensure implementation of a risk mitigation plan and close out of risks.
- Contribute to development of synergies between different offshore wind projects in the JV.
- Be responsible for objectives, resources and budget across the WTG function.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the Engineering Director.
- Represent the JV in public and private settings regarding issues within competence and seek new business opportunities while protecting JV interests.

- Ensure daily activities comply with current legislation through collaboration with outside counsel and JV legal advice.
- Collaborate with JV corporate areas to facilitate inter-related activities.
Academic background
Internationally recognised master in Engineering or Science Degree in an Offshore Wind relevant discipline.
Languages
Fluent in English. Ability to read, write and speak other languages is a plus.
Professional experience
- A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience within the power/energy sector and 5 years of offshore wind experience with involvement in development and construction of offshore wind projects and energy yield project characterization.
- Experience with Wind Turbine Generators, particularly larger latest generation machines, is essential.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of offshore WTG, its installation and related activities is essential.
- Knowledge of wind farm production calculations and related acquisition/optimization activities is essential.
- Knowledge of standards related to WTG development and certification, including regulatory regimes in key jurisdictions.
- Direct experience and knowledge of design, installation and commissioning of WTG is essential.
- Knowledge of electrical and SCADA aspects of wind turbine technology is desirable.
- Commitment to Health and Safety, working with the group’s HSE professionals across jurisdictions.

- Hands-on, accountable, organized with the ability to prioritise; enthusiastic, proactive, versátil and able to identify issues and devise solutions.

- Ability to work within approved budgets and under deadline pressure to deliver high-quality results.
- Leadership experience with 0-3 reporting lines depending on workload; staff mentoring, development and empowerment.
Other requirements
Job location will be preferable in Madrid (Spain). Flexibility to travel up to 50% of the time.
