Internship details
* Duration:
6 months curricular practicum at AIRBUS from February to July 2026
* Part time:
5 hours per day - 25 hours per week (8h-13h)
* Tutor assigned for continuous monitoring
Final project (TFG) to be carried out by the student
Title:
Phage Change Materials in Aircraft Thermal Management
Objective:
To conduct an in-depth analytical study and survey on the potential use of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) in aircraft thermal management systems, focusing on energy efficiency, weight reduction, and performance enhancement.
Scope:
The project will focus on the following key areas:
* Literature Review and Background Research
* Survey of Existing Aircraft Thermal Management Systems
* Analytical Modeling and Simulation
* Comparative Analysis of PCMs
* Report Writing and Presentation
Detailed Project Plan:
* Literature Review and Background Research
* Conduct a literature review on PCMs, their applications in thermal management, and current trends in aircraft thermal management systems.
* Identify key parameters for selecting PCMs (melting point, latent heat, thermal conductivity, and stability).
* Survey of Existing Aircraft Thermal Management Systems
* Collect data from industry reports, patents, and publications to gain insights into current state-of-the-art
* Analytical Modeling and Simulation
* Develop analytical models of PCMs in aircraft thermal management;
simulate heat transfer and phase change;
validate with simulations
* Comparative Analysis of PCMs
* Evaluate potential benefits and challenges (weight, cost, reliability)
* Report Writing and Presentation
* Prepare a comprehensive report and presentation of findings
* Present findings to academic supervisors and industry
Required skills
* Degree in Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* English:
minimum level B2 (C1 desirable)
* Spanish:
minimum level B1
* General knowledge in Thermal Management, Fluid Dynamics and simulation tools
* Analytical and problem-solving skills
* Team spirit and collaboration skills
* Ability to work in an international environment
