About the Role

We're seeking a Vice President of Product Research to lead our research organization and establish Dow Jones as the industry leader in understanding media consumers and enterprise users. This is a pivotal role that will shape how our company understands and serves our users across B2B and B2C markets —and everything in between.

As VP of Product Research, you'll build and lead a world-class team that transforms user insights into a strategic advantage for our business. You'll partner with executives across Product, Technology, Editorial, and Marketing to ensure research drives our most critical decisions. This role demands someone who can balance methodological excellence with business impact, building systems that deliver insights at the pace of modern media while maintaining the rigor that complex decisions require.

You'll be responsible for evolving our research practice from a service function into a strategic partner that anticipates market changes, identifies emerging opportunities, and helps Dow Jones stay ahead of evolving user needs. You are an expert at "Seeing Over the Horizon". You've built and led teams that successfully articulated research outcomes and how their results may impact our users and our business to a diverse organization across multiple levels of seniority up to the CEO. Your leadership will be instrumental in building a truly user-centered organization where research insights inspire innovation at every level.

You will report to the SVP of Design & Research at Dow Jones.

You Will

1. Build and lead a world-class global research organization while developing the next generation of research leaders. You'll create team structures that ensure methodological excellence across regions, foster an innovative culture, and make Dow Jones Research a premier destination for talent through mentorship and career development programs.
2. Partner with executive leadership to establish research as a strategic differentiator. You'll transform research from a service function into a proactive force that anticipates market changes, identifies emerging opportunities, and directly influences multi-year planning, portfolio decisions, and competitive strategy.
3. Build industry-leading research operations that scale with impact. You'll create systems and processes that deliver timely, actionable insights while maintaining rigor—making excellent research repeatable across our entire ecosystem.
4. Communicate our research vision and strategy across multiple audiences. Internally, you'll build alignment by connecting research insights to business outcomes in compelling ways. Externally, you'll elevate our reputation through speaking, publications, and partnerships with academic institutions and peer companies.
5. Navigate the intersection of AI and human insight strategically. You'll integrate emerging technologies into our research practice while preserving the irreplaceable value of human judgment—ensuring AI enhances rather than replaces our understanding of users.
6. Champion a user-centered culture by democratizing research across the organization. You'll embed research thinking at every level, partner with design leadership to uplevel the team's research skills, and ensure user insights actually drive decisions—not just inform them.
7. Advance the field of media and enterprise research through thought leadership. You'll push innovation in research methods, contribute to industry best practices, and position Dow Jones as a leader in understanding how people consume and use information in the digital age.

You Have

8. 15+ years of experience leading research teams in consumer or B2B businesses (preferably both), with demonstrated impact on business outcomes.
9. A proven track record of establishing and scaling research programs that meaningfully drove product and business strategy at companies with comparable scale and complexity. You've built research functions from the ground up or transformed existing teams into strategic partners that influence C-level decisions.
10. Experience building and leading research organizations across multiple locations and time zones.
11. Experience influencing executive-level decisions through research-driven recommendations.
12. Expertise as a research evangelist, with experience presenting to boards, speaking at major conferences, and building external partnerships that enhance organizational capabilities.
13. Deep expertise across qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
14. Experience building shared research capabilities across multi-disciplinary teams, including creating frameworks and training programs that allow non-researchers to gather valid insights.
15. Experience with subscription-based or advertising-supported business models.
16. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience (advanced degree in HCI, Psychology, Anthropology, or related field preferred).
17. Experience building strategic partnerships across Product, Technology, Marketing, and Editorial teams.
18. Excellence in translating complex research findings into compelling narratives that inspire action.
19. Experience managing research operations including vendor relationships, budget allocation, and technology investments.
20. Experience with ethical research practices, privacy regulations, and inclusive methodologies.
21. Experience building diverse, high-performing teams and developing research talent.

Nice to Have

22. Experience in news media, financial services, or enterprise information services
23. Published research or speaking experience at industry events or conference
24. Experience with AI/ML applications in research and predictive analytics
25. Knowledge of international research practices and cross-cultural research methodologies
26. Background in building research operations from early stage to scale
