AWS Global Field Operations (GFO) provides end‑to‑end support for AWS products and services in non‑traditional environments, including Outposts Services. GFO brings native AWS services, infrastructure, and operating models to virtually any data center, co‑location space, customer on‑premises facility, or edge site, enabling a consistent hybrid experience across on‑premises and cloud.
We are looking for a GFO Technician—a highly motivated Data Center Technician—to install and support AWS deployments in non‑traditional environments. In this role you will maintain and operate the world’s largest cloud computing infrastructure across a number of local and remote locations in the Americas.
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, keeping the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that give our customers continual access to the innovation they rely on. You’ll join a diverse team of engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers to deliver safety, security, and scalable capacity at the lowest cost.
Key job responsibilities
- Build relationships with internal teams and customers, innovating effective solutions to meet issues as they arise.
- Conduct site assessments at various facilities to prepare for onsite installation of AWS equipment.
- Install, expand, and provision AWS infrastructure at third‑party premises, data centers, and non‑traditional environments.
- Troubleshoot network installations and configurations, perform network testing, break/fix, and decommissioning, and solve complex problems.
- Proactively identify and implement strategies that prevent support issues and enhance the customer experience.
- Support day‑to‑day business internally and with external customers.
- Travel up to 30% on average to install, service, and retrieve AWS equipment.
- Physically lift up to 18 kg and participate in team lifts of 30 kg to move equipment.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and tools that improve operational efficiencies.
- Lead or participate in larger cross‑functional projects such as large‑DC installations and global initiatives.
- Work at height to maintain AWS infrastructure while adhering to AWS health & safety guidelines.
- Maintain a passion for technology and a desire to excel in all aspects of the job.
Basic Qualifications
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals, security, databases (relational or NoSQL), and operating systems (Unix, Linux, and/or Windows).
- 4+ years of data center engineering or operations experience.
- 2+ years of leading large complex programs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications (CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, Cisco/CCNA, Linux Red Hat, Microsoft hardware, AWS, etc.).
- Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years of relevant technical experience.
- Experience in a customer‑facing environment.
- Familiarity with Cisco IOS, Junos, power, cooling, cabling, and automation.
