Environmental compliance manager

The Compliance Manager oversees governance processes to ensure all Ice Cream organizations comply with environmental laws, regulations, and internal standards. This role involves developing, implementing, and managing compliance programs, including auditing, audit action tracking, and reporting. The scope covers air, water, and waste environmental compliance across all factories, offices, R&D centers, distribution centers, field sales, and merchandisers. The Compliance Manager collaborates organization-wide to implement environmental technology, tools, and processes, continuously simplifying compliance and fostering a strong environmental compliance culture. Additionally, the Compliance Manager manages a team of Data Analysts to streamline global environmental reporting, ensuring the protection of people and the planet. The role is the main point of contact for ESRS reporting.


Key Accountabilities :

1. Develop and Implement Audit and Reporting Compliance Programs :
o Create and manage programs to ensure adherence to environmental laws, regulations, and internal standards.
o Oversee auditing, audit action tracking, and reporting processes.
o Develop tools to identify recurring findings and systemic gaps across environmental standards.
o Report to senior leaders on audit program findings.
2. Training and Communication :
o Provide training and guidance to employees, contractors, and third-party suppliers on compliance matters.
o Foster a strong environmental compliance culture through effective communication and education.
o Participate in the SHE Global Leadership Team to promote a unified environmental compliance culture globally.
3. Monitoring and Reporting :
o Conduct internal reviews and audits to ensure compliance procedures are followed.
o Prepare and present compliance reports to senior management and regulatory bodies.
o Ensure accuracy and timeliness in global external environmental reporting, including ESRS and Unilever's Annual Report.
o Manage environmental business reporting for Business Groups and Business Units.
4. Legal and Regulatory Compliance :
o Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations affecting operations.
o Escalate risks to senior leaders and the Unilever Corporate Responsibility Committee.
o Drive continuous improvement in compliance processes and practices.
o Support commitments to protect people and the planet.


Experience Required :

Essential

* Experience in supply chain management.
* Proven analytical thinking and data management skills.
* University degree in Science or Engineering, with beneficial experience in engineering, modeling, data analysis, manufacturing chemistries, or environmental operations.
* Expertise in data management and reporting, including statistical analysis and modeling.
* Excellent communication and influencing skills, with cultural sensitivity.
* Strong observation and auditing skills.
* Ability to influence strategic deliverables in a matrixed organization.
* Capacity to manage multiple requests and priorities simultaneously.

Preferred

* 5-7 years in extended business operations.
* Excellent conflict resolution skills.


Travel :

Expected to participate in audits worldwide, up to 50% travel.


Contacts :

Internal : All functions at manufacturing and non-manufacturing sites, including remote employees, and the Global SHE team.

External : Audit consultants, external auditors, annual report assurance consultants, government agencies, and regulatory authorities.
