InstitutionA selection process is announced for the position of the new Director of the Consortium for the Construction, Equipment and Operation of the Synchrotron Light Laboratory (CELLS), pursuant to the resolution adopted by the Rector Council on 2 February 2026.
CELLS is the public entity that manages the ALBA Synchrotron Light Facility. CELLS is jointly owned by the Spanish Government, through the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades (50%), and the Generalitat de Catalunya, through the Conselleria de Recerca i Universitats (50%).
The ALBA Synchrotron Light Facility is a leading research infrastructure that brings together a broad community of research and innovation institutions around its state‐of‐the‐art instruments. It offers a supportive and intellectually rich environment to advance knowledge, address complex scientific and societal challenges, foster technological innovation, and train future generations of scientists and engineers.
ALBA is entering a particularly stimulating and transformative phase. The recent approval of its upgrade to a fourth‐generation light source, ALBA II, together with the endorsement of long‐term funding through 2038, places the facility at a pivotal moment in its evolution. This stable funding horizon, linked to the upgrade, currently at its initial stage, offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of ALBA.
The full scientific, technical, and strategic potential of this new phase will be entrusted to the incoming Director, who will be supported by an experienced and highly committed team. In addition, the increased capacity to host innovative institutions within the expanded ALBA site provides an exciting opportunity to strengthen connections with new communities and to further enhance the facility's societal impact.
